Ancient Divine Beast - Zhuqian

Zhuqian is a mythical creature from ancient Chinese legends, originating from the "Shan Hai Jing" (Classic of Mountains and Seas, Northern Mountains). It features a human face, a body resembling a leopard, cow-like ears, and a single eye, along with a long tail capable of producing a loud roar. As it moves, it holds its tail in its mouth, and when resting, it wraps its tail around itself. In the game "A Chinese Odyssey," a summoning beast based on Zhuqian is named the Fat Lang God.

Appearance of Zhuqian

Zhuqian largely resembles a leopard, with a head that appears human. Its single eye is quite intimidating, and its ears are similar to those of a cow. The creature's long tail trails behind it, which can be somewhat cumbersome. As it moves, Zhuqian holds its tail in its mouth, and when it rests, it coils its tail around itself.

Origin of Zhuqian

According to the "Shan Hai Jing, Northern Mountains," it is recorded: "To the north, eight hundred li, lies a mountain called Shanzhang, where no grass or trees grow. There is a beast there resembling a leopard with a long tail, a human head, cow ears, and a single eye, known as Zhuqian. It is recognized for its loud roar, and when it walks, it holds its tail in its mouth."

Translation: Eight hundred li north of Manlian Mountain stands Shanzhang Mountain, barren of vegetation. From this peak, the Li River begins and flows south into the Gang River. A wild creature inhabits the mountain, called Zhuqian. Zhuqian resembles a leopard, drags a long tail, possesses a human head, cow ears, and a single eye, and is notably fond of making loud noises. Due to its lengthy tail, it prefers holding it in its mouth while walking, and when resting, it wraps it around its body.

Legend has it that "Zhuqian," also referred to as the Fat Lang God, possesses immense strength and excels in archery. Its power is formidable; those it attacks face almost certain demise, and if they survive, they are left gravely disabled and unable to care for themselves, making it a fearsome presence. Its long tail can produce an enormous sound.
