Introduction to Palm Reading

In face and palm reading, there is a distinction between innate traits and acquired influences, as well as differences in physical form and energetic appearance.

The hand embodies the principles of Yin and Yang, the Three Realms (Heaven, Earth, and Human), and the mysteries of Tai Chi and the Five Elements.

In a broader sense, the hand reflects the universe—heaven and earth can be seen within a single palm. On a more detailed level, the condition of the internal organs and life energy can also be observed through the hand.

Palm reading focuses primarily on the palm surface, analyzing the major and minor lines, their direction, branches, symbols, and the different areas of the palm. Through this, it reveals a person’s talents, personality, potential achievements, family background, relationships with parents and spouse, children, and overall life direction.

This tool analyzes a person’s fortune and life trends through palm lines, fingernails, fingerprints, fingers, and hand shape, providing a comprehensive palm reading interpretation.

Major Palm Lines

Life Line

The Life Line starts between the thumb and index finger and curves downward toward the base of the palm.

Its length does not indicate lifespan, but rather the strength of vitality and life energy. For this reason, it is more accurately understood as a Vitality Line.

Head Line (Wisdom Line)

The Head Line, also known as the Brain Line, is one of the most important lines in palmistry.

In Chinese palm reading, it represents the self, and is sometimes called the Human Line, reflecting thinking patterns, intelligence, and decision-making style.

Heart Line (Emotion Line)

The Heart Line, also called the Heaven Line or Father Line, begins beneath the little finger and extends toward the index finger.

  1. Reaching the space between the index and middle finger suggests emotional balance.
  2. Extending under the index finger indicates a focus on spiritual and emotional love.
  3. Ending beneath the middle finger reflects physical love rather than idealistic romance.
  4. Curving downward shows passionate and impulsive love.
  5. A long heart line with downward branches indicates self-sacrifice for love.

Marriage Line

The Marriage Line is located on the edge of the palm below the little finger, between the Heart Line and the base of the finger.

Some people have one line, others several. The number itself is less important than identifying the deepest and clearest line.

  1. Two equally deep lines may suggest emotional entanglements.
  2. More than six unclear lines may indicate complicated relationship patterns.

Fate Line (Career Line)

The Fate Line, also known as the Career Line, rises from the base of the palm toward the center and may extend up to the middle finger. It reflects career development, life direction, and external influences.

Sun Line

The Sun Line runs vertically beneath the ring finger and often parallels the Career Line.

A double Sun Line is called a Line of Fame, indicating recognition and social reputation.

  1. Too many Sun Lines suggest many interests but scattered focus.
  2. Breaks, islands, or cross shapes indicate loss of reputation or financial setbacks.

Fingernails

Fingernails grow from the skin and are composed of fine fibrous structures. They reflect a person’s health condition, temperament, and personality tendencies.

Nails are evaluated by shape, length, hardness, and thickness:

  1. Soft, thin nails are usually long and narrow.
  2. Thick, hard nails are typically short and wide.

Nail length is assessed by comparing it to the first finger joint—about half the joint length is considered balanced.

Fingerprints

Although the human body changes over time, fingerprints remain unchanged throughout life.

They are generally classified into whorl patterns and loop patterns, each corresponding to different personality traits and life tendencies.

Fingers

Each of the five fingers represents a different life stage and family relationship:

  1. Thumb: Childhood and relationship with parents
  2. Index Finger: Youth and siblings
  3. Middle Finger: Middle age and the self
  4. Ring Finger: Adulthood and spouse
  5. Little Finger: Later years and children

Hand Shape

Hand shape reflects a person’s core personality, values, and approach to life.

When palm lines and hand shape offer different indications, hand shape takes priority.

In Western palmistry, hand shapes are classified into seven types, such as Square, Conic, Philosophical, and Mixed Hands.

In Chinese palmistry, hand shapes are categorized according to the Five Elements—Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth, and Mixed types.

Although the names differ, the underlying meanings are largely the same.
