The Complete Guide to Tarot Spreads: The Holy Triangle Method

18.6K views

The Holy Triangle spread is one of the simplest and easiest to learn among all Tarot spreads. It’s ideal for yes-or-no questions and helps clarify ambiguous situations, such as whether to... will it... should I..., and so on. Using the Holy Triangle divination method provides a clear and straightforward reading. For more detailed inquiries, choose a different spread.

The Holy Triangle is a classic time-flow spread, meaning it offers direct answers based solely on the passage of time. This spread does not include advice or indicator cards; it uses only three cards to pinpoint the answer to a relatively simple question.

I. Layout

  • From the 22 Major Arcana, count down from the top to the seventh card, remove it, and place it in position 1 as shown above;
  • Set aside the cards you just counted—they are no longer needed. Then, from the remaining cards, count again to the seventh card and place it in position 2;
  • Again, set aside the counted cards. Finally, count once more and place the seventh card in position 3. At this point, only one card should remain; add it to the pile of counted cards.
  • Turn over the three cards from left to right in the order established, and begin your interpretation.

II. Card Position Meanings

  • Represents past experiences.
  • Represents the current situation related to the question.
  • Represents the likely future outcome of the question.

Divination Example

Question: Will I pass all my courses in the finals?

Cards:

  • Past: The World (upright)
  • Present: Strength (upright)
  • Future: The Hanged Man (upright)

Card Interpretation:

  • The "past" card, The World (upright), indicates that you’ve been adept at studying and managing your coursework without issues.
  • The "present" card, Strength (upright), shows you’ve truly put in the effort for these exams, applying strong willpower to your study and review.
  • Finally, the "future" card, The Hanged Man (upright), suggests your efforts and sacrifices will pay off and you will pass. It also cautions against complacency—continued effort is needed to secure the results you want.
