Calculate Your Tarot Birth Card

Numerology and Tarot

Using your birth year, month, and day, you can identify the tarot cards that describe your life. These life cards come in two types: one reflects your personality traits, and the other symbolizes your soul.

The personality card highlights your intellect, talents, temperament, demeanor, and how others see you—essentially, how you present yourself to the world.

The soul card reveals the deeper layers of who you are: your inner desires, sources of energy, spiritual leanings, pursuits, and the ideal life you long for. It represents the true you that’s often hidden from view.

From the moment you’re born, your life engages with the world, accompanied by both personality and soul. Identifying the cards that correspond to your life (drawn from the 22 Major Arcana, or 25 in certain variant decks) can help you better understand yourself and how others perceive you. Bringing your hidden traits and energies to light helps you recognize your potential and strengths, gain clarity about the future, and set the stage for a brighter path.

Calculation Method

1. Add your birth year, month, and day to get a total. Then reduce that total by adding its digits until you reach a two-digit number. That two-digit number is your Personality card. Next, add those two digits together to get a single digit; that single digit is your Soul card.

2. If your first reduction already yields a single digit, your Personality and Soul share the same symbol—often a sign of focused, professional aptitude.

3. If the reduction equals 19, then 1+9=10 and 1+0=1. This is the only case that produces three numbers. The first (19) represents Personality, the third (1) represents Soul, and the extra middle number (10) represents Creativity. People with a Creativity symbol tend to be exceptionally creative.

4. If the reduction equals 22 (or 25 in the variant deck), then 22 corresponds to 0 (because the traditional Major Arcana are numbered 0–21), which represents Personality; and 2+2=4, which represents Soul.

5. If the reduction is greater than 22 (or greater than 25 in the variant deck), subtract 22 (or 25). The remainder is your Personality number; reduce that remainder to a single digit to get your Soul number.

If your Personality and Soul numbers are the same, it suggests a more singular, concentrated life path; if they differ, your development is likely more complex.

If your number is 0, you seek a colorful, varied life.

If your number is between 1 and 6, you pursue a harmonious life.

If your number is between 7 and 12, you seek a life of adventure and challenge.

If your number is between 13 and 18, you’re drawn to continual creation and change.

If your number is between 19 and 21, you strive for self-actualization and achievement.

You can also calculate your fortune (yearly influence) card based on your birth month and day for any given year. Because this calculation is anchored to your birthday, each year’s fortune begins on your birthday.

For example, if you were born on June 1, 1976, your fortune for 1997 begins on June 1, 1997. The period before June 1, 1997, belongs to your 1996 fortune.

Note

With this method, you can identify the tarot card that represents your fortune for the current or upcoming year. Starting from your birth year, you can also outline a person’s fortune year by year.

When you map out your annual fortune, you’ll notice the numbers generally progress in sequence but occasionally “skip” and jump to a new sequence. These interruptions signal turning points—shifts in your life path and the start of new cycles of fortune.

You’ll also notice that fortune cards do not include 0 (The Fool) or 1 (The Magician), because each year is inherently filled with the unknown (The Fool) and change (The Magician).

1. Add your birth month, day, and the current year. Then add the digits of that total. If the result is 21 or below, use that number to find your fortune card.

2. If that result is 22 or higher (or 25 or higher in the variant deck), add its digits together to reduce it to a single digit. That single digit is your fortune number.

3. Exception: if the digit-sum equals 28, then 2+8=10 is your fortune number—do not reduce 10 further.
