In the world, both good and evil exist. When interacting with others, three types of friends can be beneficial: one who is honest, one who is understanding, and one who is knowledgeable. Conversely, three types of friends can be harmful: one who is deceitful, one who is overly agreeable, and one who is excessively flattering. A gentleman's greatest virtue is kindness towards others; however, blind kindness is foolish. We must practice wise kindness. "To calculate every mistake with care, to reflect on every difficulty when stepping back" indicates that human intentions can be deceptive, and we must remain vigilant. Teacher Liu Heng advises that when dealing with petty individuals, we should either adhere to our principles or maintain distance, echoing Confucius's philosophy of "repaying virtue with virtue and repaying resentment with integrity." We should be loyal, forgiving, upright, just, and respectful.

Three Auspicious Signs and Three Signs of Longevity

Note by Liu Heng: The original concept refers to having three auspicious signs on the back and three signs of longevity in the abdomen. "Longevity" pertains to lifespan. According to physiognomy, longevity is associated with long eyebrows (the longevity palace), a long nose (the wealth palace), and long fingers, which constitute the three auspicious signs; a broad forehead, large ears, and strong teeth indicate longevity (due to strong teeth and solid kidneys), which constitute the three signs of longevity.

Four Defects and Three Exposures: What Leads to Poverty?

Note by Liu Heng: Defective ears with no lobes can lead to selling off land. A low, pointed nose results in financial loss. Wide cheekbones suggest a rebellious nature, resulting in a life without support. A mouth that is sharp like a rat's suggests greed and a base nature, leaving one without a foothold. Exposed nostrils indicate an empty pantry, lacking sustenance for the night. Lips that reveal teeth suggest a lack of savings. Dull eyes that expose one's inner self indicate a life of low status.

Small Mouth and Exposed Lips: Hard to Satisfy Hunger

Note by Liu Heng: A small mouth signals dependence on others. Exposed lips suggest a lack of trustworthiness (with two types: thin, outward-turning lips, and protruding lip shape). A small mouth with exposed lips leads to a life of poverty and failure, lacking trust, friends, and ambition, while relying on others.

Cold Shoulders and Exposed Teeth: No Stable Dwelling

Note by Liu Heng: Cold shoulders can mean one of two things: narrow shoulders, suggesting a weak will and inability to take on responsibilities, or flat shoulders, which lack support (Liu Heng connects this to stomach issues). This leads to a lifetime of financial insufficiency, hunger, and an unstable home.

Four Murky Channels, Separated Peaks

Note by Liu Heng: The four channels refer to the eyes (Huai), ears (Jiang), mouth (He), and nose (Ji). Physiognomy suggests: "If the four channels are deep and broad, the banks will not overflow," meaning the features of the eyes, ears, nose, and mouth should be deep and wide, not congested or short; otherwise, one’s fate will be unfavorable. In other words, these features must fit well wi... the overall facial structure in size, position, and shape; if not, fortune will be obstructed. Small, pointed eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, lacking spirit, with exposed nostrils and small, turned-in ears, indicate all four channels are murky, leading to separated peaks. The Southern Peak (Hengshan) looks at the forehead, the Northern Peak (Hengshan) looks at the chin, the Eastern Peak (Taishan) looks at the nose, the Western Peak (Huashan) looks at the cheekbones, while the Central Peak (Songshan) is considered as a whole. A pointed, narrow forehead with a low hairline signifies separation from the Southern Peak. A pointed, thin nose with visible nostrils indicates separation from the Eastern Peak. A short, pointed chin suggests separation from the Northern Peak. Sunken, pointed cheekbones imply separation from the Western Peak. When all five peaks are separated, the Central Peak lacks support.

Sunken Back and Narrow Chest, Sparse Eyebrows and Teeth

Note by Liu Heng: A sunken back can mean cold shoulders or a hunchback. A sunken back results in instability in actions and inconsistency in work. A narrow chest, often called a chicken or turtle chest, indicates a lack of wealth and family affection. Sparse eyebrows and unkempt hair suggest a lack of responsibility and compassion toward friends, along with wavering ambitions. Sparse teeth and insufficient liver energy result in a weak temperament; weak teeth suggest kidney deficiency, and sparse teeth are similar to sparse eyebrows.

Walking with Flailing Limbs, Sitting with Untrustworthy Eyes

Note by Liu Heng: Walking with flailing arms and legs, lacking firm footing, indicates instability and lack of integrity; sitting with sneaky glances indicates a deceitful heart and ulterior motives.
