Physiognomy has been passed down through the ages, and many of its concepts are familiar to us, even if we haven't formalized them into theory. Liu Heng states: "The face expresses the heart through the eyes, actions through the nose, and the cheekbones signify integrity." As the saying goes, "The appearance mirrors the heart; what's in the heart will show on the face." Among the various branches of I Ching predictive studies, physiognomy is unique for its ability to analyze fate on a deep level. While physiognomy is individual, the BaZi (Eight Characters) is shared by many, with each BaZi corresponding to countless life events.
1. High and Prominent Ears Signify Worldwide Recognition
The height of the ears is typically measured against the eyebrows and nose. If the ears are higher than the eyebrows with a distinct and thick outline, Liu Heng notes: "The kidneys connect to the ears, which serve as their external openings, governing willpower." This "will" translates to wisdom and memory. Therefore, large and thick ears are a good omen, indicating exceptional intelligence and strong memory, leading to recognition worldwide in adulthood.
2. Moles on the Ears Indicate Great Wisdom
Moles in certain places can signal changes in fate. Liu Heng states: "There are no auspicious moles on the face." Thus, the absence of lucky moles on the face and the interpretation of moles elsewhere, regardless of their nature, is significant. Moles on the ears are generally neutral; however, because the kidneys open to the ears and are connected with the color black, black moles on the ears symbolize intelligence and a talent for learning and memory.
3. High and Full Forehead Indicates Exceptional Intelligence
In physiognomy, the forehead is referred to as the "Palace of Official Wealth," associated with prospects. Liu Heng states: "The face reflects the heart through the eyes, actions through the nose, and the forehead indicates wisdom or folly." A high hairline and wide forehead denote strong innate kidney energy and intelligence. The ancients said: "A forehead like a standing wall," meaning it should not be low, flat, or narrow. Hence, there's a saying in physiognomy: "A high forehead leads to a high reputation."
4. Dark Circles Under the Eyes Imply Few Descendants
The area under the eyes, known as the eye bags, is termed "Three Yin and Three Yang" in physiognomy. Liu Heng states: "The Three Yin are Jue Yin, Shao Yin, and Tai Yin; the Three Yang are Shao Yang, Yang Ming, and Tai Yang." The Tian Zhai Palace governs the stomach, while the Three Yin and Three Yang govern the spleen, responsible for nurturing the fetus. Dark circles or grid-like lines under the eyes indicate a deficiency in spleen and stomach energy, leading to a lack of familial affection and an inability to conceive, hence the notion of having few children.
5. Redness at the Nose Tip Indicates Financial Losses
In physiognomy, the nose represents the wealth palace, indicating one's enjoyment and assets, as well as relationships with in-laws. Liu Heng states: "The bridge of the nose represents willpower, while the tip of the nose signifies trust." A sharp and thin nose tip indicates stinginess and a lack of trust; a fleshy nose tip suggests a kind heart. If the tip of the nose is red, it suggests that stomach energy is rising to the face, symbolizing financial losses, family separation, and bankruptcy, leading to wandering without a home.
6. A Deep Philtrum Indicates Daughters, A Shallow Philtrum Indicates Sons
The philtrum is associated with offspring; a deep and well-defined philtrum indicates numerous and lively children. A narrow or flat philtrum, or one that bulges, suggests a deficiency in both innate kidney energy and acquired stomach energy, indicating challenges in conceiving and bearing children. If the boundary between the philtrum and the lips is rounded and sloping, it indicates a daughter; a 150-degree angle suggests the likelihood of having a son.
