90-Year-Old Indian Yogi Claims to Have Lived 80 Years Without Food or Water, Brain Functions Like a 25-Year-Old

In India, there's a renowned yogi named Prahlad Jani who claimed to have lived without food or water for more than eighty years. Medical reports indicate that his bodily functions were comparable to those of a 25-year-old, making him a "scientific or biological miracle."

Jani claimed to have been born in August 1929. He dedicated his entire life to practicing yoga and meditation in the village of Charada, located in the western Indian state of Gujarat.

It is believed that Jani was blessed by a goddess during his childhood, enabling him to survive without eating or drinking. In 2013, he told AFP that he received an "elixir" through a channel on his upper palate, allowing him to live without food or water. This bears some resemblance to the Chinese practice of "breatharianism," as Jani allegedly hadn't consumed food or water for decades.

Jani asserted that since the age of 8, he had not eaten or consumed water, nor had he experienced bodily excretions. Despite skepticism from many doctors regarding these claims, he had numerous followers who believed in him. His neighbor confirmed that Jani passed away on May 26, 2020, at the age of 90. According to AFP, his neighbor, Sheetal Chaudhary, reported that he died in the early hours of that day due to old age. He was taken to the hospital after midnight, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.

Indian Doctors Study Jani

In 2010, India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a study on Jani.

During that time, Jani was observed for two weeks at a hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat's largest city, under the watchful eye of a team of military doctors who monitored his every activity. They scanned his organs, brain, and blood vessels, thoroughly examining his heart, lungs, and cognitive abilities.

The doctors reported that during this period, Jani did not eat, drink, or use the restroom; his only contact with water was limited to routine mouth rinsing and bathing.

Neurologist Sudhir Shah told reporters at the time, "We still do not understand how he survives; this phenomenon remains a mystery."

Al Jazeera reported that Jani claimed he had been under the protection of a goddess since he was 8, allowing him to acquire energy through meditation and thus eliminating the need for food.

The hospital that examined Jani in 2010 observed that his brain was as youthful as that of a 25-year-old. His yoga practice suggested that his body had undergone biological changes.

At the press conference, Shah not only confirmed that Jani truly did not eat or drink during his time at the hospital, but he also verified that Jani had no bodily excretions. Shah described the findings from his observations as a "scientific or biological miracle."
