Recently, while browsing a particular social media platform, I noticed a sudden wave of enthusiasm surrounding discussions about "high energy" and "low energy." After watching several vlogs titled "A Day in the Life of High-Energy Guys/Girls," I felt inspired to write about this topic myself.

Many people describe high-energy individuals as lively and full of vitality, whereas low-energy individuals often seem lethargic. Engaging with high-energy people can easily uplift your mood and boost positivity, while being around low-energy individuals can leave you feeling drained... This invisible energy field has been deeply explored in metaphysical circles —

Our outward appearance often mirrors our internal state, and a person's energy level can manifest in their physical features.

Facial Features

When we talk about the facial features of high-energy individuals, it's not just superficial beauty; it's about the fundamental reflection of their vitality and spirit.

Bright Eyes

"The eyes are the windows to the soul." High-energy individuals often have clear, bright eyes without any yellowish tint, with focused and steady pupils. Simply put, the phrase "bright and spirited" best describes this feature. It's perhaps the easiest and most direct way to gauge someone's energy level:

High-energy and optimistic people will never have dull, lifeless eyes.

From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the clarity of one's eyes is linked to liver health. Individuals with bright eyes tend to have smooth liver energy flow and efficient toxin metabolism, leading to "light in their eyes and fire in their hearts." Conversely, dull, lifeless eyes may suggest liver issues or poor energy circulation.

PS: Observe energetic elderly people around you. Despite their age or physical condition, their eyes often shine brighter than those of many young people today.

(I once found myself anxious, eating and sleeping just to get by, and realized one day that my eyes were noticeably less vibrant than those of a seventy-year-old man selling breakfast on the corner.)

Full Lips

Typically, high-energy individuals have full, well-defined lips with a healthy, rosy color (pale or colorless lips may signal digestive issues or anemia). When they speak, their lips move powerfully with clear and precise enunciation. This aligns with the idea that well-defined lips and clear speech reflect abundant physical and mental energy.

Strong Nose

In facial analysis, the nose symbolizes wealth and self-image. High-energy individuals often have a straight nose with full nostrils that harmonize well with their facial shape and ears (the nose should be proportionate to the face and ears, without appearing too small).

I once read a report suggesting that people with prominent noses and full nostrils tend to practice deep abdominal breathing, allowing for higher oxygen intake (though I'm not sure how accurate that is, haha).

Ears and Energy

The size of the ears should match the overall facial shape; overly large or small ears are usually noticeable. Ears represent kidney energy, and well-colored, large ears often indicate sufficient kidney energy, good physical health, and greater courage. When the body can support the mind, it certainly aids in becoming a high-energy person.

In today's world, having good physical health is a blessing. Those with abundant energy, in contrast to those who tire easily, unquestionably have more time and energy to enrich their lives, making it crucial to take care of our bodies.

Complexion and Inner Energy

If facial features are the hardware, then complexion is the hidden software that also reveals a person's physical and mental energy levels.

Cheeks and Vitality

Subtly rosy cheeks indicate strong heart and lung function. Such individuals often exhibit a rosy complexion during exercise, and even at rest, their skin has a slight rosy glow, reflecting what some online friends humorously describe as someone looking "very healthy."

Distinguishing a healthy, vibrant glow from a pathological flush is key. In reality, this is easy to observe — a sickly flush resembles drunkenness and is often accompanied by excess or difficulty in sweating, which is vastly different from a healthy rosy complexion. This is a sign of "over-exhaustion," which is detrimental to both physical and mental health.

Color and Digestion

Focusing on complexion, for example, with East Asians having typical yellow-toned skin, a face with a soft glow and the right amount of "yellow" generally indicates good digestive health and robust constitution.

For instance, certain resilient individuals seem unaffected by poor digestion after eating junk food, or they manage jet lag lightly while others drag through it... These people often have very healthy skin, radiating an inner glow.

Moreover, skin glow isn't related to specific "skin tones," especially those modified by skincare or sun exposure; what matters is the inherent "color sense" emanating from the skin.

Under-eye Bags and Liver/Kidney Health

While the eyes reflect liver energy, the area under the eyes can reveal insights into both liver and kidney health. High-energy individuals often have bright, full under-eye bags without dark circles. If dark circles appear, they may indicate liver and kidney issues, leading to sluggishness and reduced effectiveness or motivation.

The "Five Elements" Flow in the Face

Facial analysis has another fascinating dimension: the face can be viewed as a miniature universe, with features reflecting the flow of the five elements. High-energy individuals often showcase a harmonious balance of these energies.

The energy field of the face follows the principles of the five elements. When there is an imbalance among the five elements, the face will display corresponding warning signs. We can use these principles for self-care and to enhance the "smoothness" of the five elements in our faces, for example —

Individuals with a pale tongue (indicating weak fire) may suffer from insufficient heart energy and fatigue; a red tongue tip might suggest excessive heart fire, implying a need to focus on heart and brain health through techniques like meditation and deep breathing;

Pale or cracked lips with a bad odor (suggesting deficient earth) might indicate digestive troubles, warranting attention to digestive health. Millet and yam porridge is a recommended easy-to-make option beneficial for the digestive system;

A sunken or crooked nose, or a nose that is too small (indicating weak metal) could suggest insufficient lung energy, warranting a focus on lung health. Undertaking exercises that boost heart and lung function (like Baduanjin) and consuming white foods like lotus seeds and tofu can be beneficial;

Small or irregularly contoured ears (signifying deficient water) may be linked to kidney weakness, suggesting a need to enhance kidney and reproductive health. Regular consumption of black sesame and black beans can help nourish the kidneys;

Dull, lifeless eyes and cloudy pupils (indicating weak wood) require special attention to liver and gallbladder health. Maintaining a balanced diet, avoiding late nights or excessive drinking, and drinking goji berry and chrysanthemum tea can help soothe the liver.

Note: The discussion of the five elements above differs from their role in BaZi (Chinese astrology). For instance, dull eyes may indicate "weak wood," but this doesn't imply that a BaZi chart necessarily lacks wood! Don't confuse the two systems.

Energy Enhancement: From Facial Features to Inner Spirit

The reason high-energy individuals exhibit such vitality is not just because they have "high-energy faces," but because their spirit and mental energy are abundant, which becomes apparent through their facial features. By nurturing the inner self, one can transform their facial appearance and enhance their life energy; this is a form of cultivation.

One method is "visualization," where practitioners imagine their faces glowing with golden light to gather life energy. In modern psychology, this is known as "positive psychological suggestion," which involves continuously reinforcing a positive image to alter the subconscious and subsequently influence external behavior.

Buddhist and Taoist traditions emphasize "compassion." Developing compassion for others and all living beings can purify the heart and subtly alter one's appearance. A person with a pure, kind heart and wisdom often displays a peaceful and serene expression, radiating a high-energy magnetic field that inspires goodwill and respect from others.

Modern psychology also suggests methods for enhancing energy, such as meditation, which helps individuals relax their bodies and minds, reduce stress, and improve facial relaxation. Moderate exercise can improve blood circulation, enhance fitness, and improve complexion, while a positive mindset can help maintain a joyful mood, leading to a more relaxed facial expression, among other benefits.
