A happy marriage is something everyone longs for. We hope to meet a partner who is gentle, considerate, affectionate, and ambitious. Wealth is secondary. Finding someone to walk through life with is truly one of life’s greatest joys.

When people read palms to assess marriage, they usually start with the marriage line (one or more short lines that run from the edge of the palm toward the center, located between the little finger and the heart line, as shown in Figure A). However, there is another line that plays an even more important role: the heart line.

The heart line has a strong influence on how feelings between men and women develop—from first meeting, to deepening affection, to discussing marriage. Even if the marriage line shows ups and downs, a strong heart line can help a couple weather the storm and grow old together. Qualities like empathy, tolerance, and integrity can offset the negative signals of a weaker marriage line.

A favorable heart line (as shown in Figure B) is clear, unbroken, deep, slightly curved, and extends to a point below the index finger or between the index and middle fingers; a fork at the end is even better. This suggests someone who is loving, responsible, values relationships, and is well liked socially.

A very short heart line (as shown in Figure C), one that doesn’t reach even halfway under the middle finger, points to someone who is more pragmatic, less sentimental, and more focused on physical desire, leading to brief relationships. They may pursue someone but won’t truly cherish them, resulting in a repeated cycle of chasing and losing.

A very long heart line (as shown in Figure D), extending to the edge of the palm beneath the index finger, indicates someone who loves intensely, is strongly possessive, and can be quite jealous—traits that others may find difficult to handle.

Neither an overly long nor an overly short heart line is ideal: the former reflects excessive emotion, while the latter suggests a cooler disposition. A balanced heart line is best, as it can stand the test of time.

There is also an interesting pattern: the more curved the heart line, the more openly and passionately a person tends to express feelings; the straighter it is, the more subtle and passive the expression. In relationships, recognizing each other’s ways of showing affection can help avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.
