Why Do Some People's Appearances Not Reflect Their True Destiny?

Hello everyone, welcome to this edition of our series on facial features. Today's article is a Q&A session, aimed at clarifying some misconceptions for our readers. We received a message from a reader that I felt warranted a detailed response, and I've selected it for discussion below.
This reader expressed concern that many people's appearances do not seem to align with their actual fortunes:
Some people have pleasant looks but lead ordinary or troubled lives, while others with seemingly unremarkable features appear to thrive. Are the teachings in books on facial features incorrect?
This is a common question for beginners in facial features analysis. The core misunderstanding lies between "facial features" and "appearance":
In the broad context of "facial features analysis," it refers to the various aspects involved in observing and understanding people. However, what we usually consider as "appearance" is merely one component, known as "morphology," within this field.
Facial features include elements like eyebrows, eyes, nose, lips, and ears, as well as the proportions of the forehead, midface, and jawline. These are crucial principles in understanding and observing individuals. Lei Menyi has authored numerous articles on these topics, all of which fall under "morphology."
While morphology is indeed a central aspect of facial features and fortune-telling, it is not the whole story: spirit and complexion, posture, and demeanor all play a vital role in these assessments.
Spirit and Complexion
In facial features analysis, "spirit"—particularly the gaze—can be separated from external eye characteristics like size, shape, or eyelid form. The importance of the gaze is immense:
Focusing on the eyes is key to understanding a person's true essence. A lively gaze can significantly compensate for other flaws, whereas a dull gaze can diminish appealing features.
If a person's eyes are bright and expressive, regardless of their appearance, it indicates intelligence and nobility. Such individuals are often goal-oriented, perceptive of others, and maintain a positive outlook—traits of considerable value.
Furthermore, a bright and lively gaze demonstrates inner confidence and clarity, while a lackluster gaze may suggest a lack of drive and resolve, potentially hinting at current stagnation in fortune.
The "Ma Yi Shen Xiang" describes ten types of gazes:
Spirit side glance, unclear spirit, wandering spirit, confused spirit, murky spirit, startled spirit, drowsy spirit, drunken spirit, dignified spirit, and calm spirit. The first eight gazes are considered unfavorable and can lower one's perceived overall character, while the last two indicate a noble essence.
The concept of "complexion" is a more advanced aspect of facial features analysis. Qi represents internal energy, while color is external; Qi is the root, and color is the sprout. Together, they embody the essence of the body's organs.
Facial Features and the "Six Qi":
The "Six Qi" include Qinglong Qi, which has a color like deep purple silk; Zhuque Qi, with a color like a sunset on water; Goucheng Qi, with a color likened to black storm clouds; Xuanwu Qi, like the morning mist; along with Baihu Qi and Tianshe Qi, the latter resembling ash from grass. Qinglong Qi is considered auspicious, while Goucheng and Xuanwu Qi are seen as the least favorable.
Color tones such as green, red, yellow, white, black, purple, and haze have their own significance, correlated with different facial areas and complexion. Analyzing these shades can be complicated, especially for beginners, as ancient texts often use intimidating terminology. Thus, we won't delve too deeply here.
Overall facial complexion is key. Poor complexion, such as blue, gray, black, yellow-gray, or black-yellow hues, often implies obstacles or stalled fortunes.
Qi circulates through the organs, nourishing both spirit and complexion along with noticeable morphology. Weak Qi impacts these areas subtly, sometimes requiring careful observation to detect.
If spirit and complexion appear dull for prolonged periods, it may eventually influence one's appearance, leading others to notice significant changes: "XX's appearance has changed significantly."
This explains the premise of this article:
For example, even if someone has a full forehead, strong cheekbones, and prominent ears—considered excellent features—if their gaze is empty or their complexion poor, their circumstances (particularly at present) may not be favorable.
In contrast, someone with seemingly ordinary features, or even with apparent flaws like visible nostrils or small earlobes, may actually experience good fortune if their eyes are bright and their complexion smooth.
PS: It's important to highlight "current," as spirit and complexion are indicators of stage-based fortunes and can change.
As fortunes fluctuate, spirit and complexion will also alter accordingly.
Posture and Norms
So far, we've discussed "hardware" observations. To truly assess one's nobility or commonness, we must consider their more dynamic and voluntary aspects: habitual postures and norms in daily life, without embellishment.
Walking:
Ancient texts often compare a walking person to a ship sailing on water—a smooth and stable journey suggests a favorable voyage, while struggling signals trouble. Similarly, a calm walking posture with firm steps signifies a noble character, whereas a swaying or unstable gait suggests flaws.
Sitting:
Ancient texts say: "Walking belongs to Yang, sitting belongs to Yin; Yang is active, Yin is still. Remaining motionless and stable signifies the virtue of sitting..." This statement contrasts the "active" and "still" characteristics of walking and sitting, and reveals how they evaluated sitting posture.
Good sitting posture emphasizes stillness, stability, and calmness, traits of Yin. In contrast, slouched or unstable sitting, accompanied by fidgeting, can lower a person’s standing.
It's also important to mention standing posture. If someone naturally maintains an upright posture, it indicates nobility; if they slouch or seem uneasy while standing, it can indicate distraction, anxiety, or concern, which can slightly diminish one's status.
(Thus, attention should be paid to daily posture, consciously correcting bad habits. In facial features analysis, good posture represents respect and nobility, and even disregarding metaphysical aspects, it enhances one's charm and appeal.)
Eating:
Facial features texts state: "Qi and blood are nourished by food, and names are sustained by it," emphasizing diet's role in nurturing Qi and health. Eating habits can reflect one's character.
Typically, calm and composed eating gestures imply a higher status, while hurried and sloppy eating indicates the opposite.
Taste preferences hint at personality traits. Frequent reliance on spicy or greasy foods, or binge eating, often signifies impulsive qualities. Conversely, those who choose balanced diets, favoring healthy over junk foods, tend to exhibit composure and restraint.
Skin condition is also crucial in facial features analysis. For instance, acne on the nose suggests financial strain, while students may see academic effects. Similarly, "orange peel" skin in men can forecast unfavorable marital outcomes, whereas good skin is often associated with prosperity in marriage.
If your skin struggles and you consume excessive fried or sugary foods, it’s wise to limit junk food and address this:
First, skin concerns often signal underlying health issues, and better health will enhance complexion and skin quality.
Second, maintaining a nutritious diet can subtly improve personality, reducing impulsiveness while supporting overall development.
