What Do Sweeping Eyebrows Mean in Face Reading?

In traditional face reading, the eyebrows are known as the “Longevity Officer,” symbolizing a person’s wisdom and lifespan. They also correspond to the “Brother Palace,” reflecting one’s emotional bonds with siblings and friends. Classical texts divide the left eyebrow into two sections: the front is called “Lingyun” (soaring clouds) and the back “Fanxia” (colorful clouds); the right eyebrow is likewise split into “Ziqi” (purple energy) in front and “Caixia” (colorful clouds) at the back. Eyebrows are further grouped into twenty-four types by shape, including sword eyebrows, straight eyebrows, willow-leaf eyebrows, eight-character eyebrows, spiral eyebrows, arhat eyebrows, and broom eyebrows. Below, we introduce broom eyebrows.
I. Characteristics of Broom Eyebrows
Broom eyebrows are thick and coarse, dense and clear at the front but thinning and splaying toward the tail, resembling a broom.
II. Those with Broom Eyebrows Struggle to Accumulate Wealth
A verse states: “Clear at the front, sparse at the back, with a scattered tail; brothers are unkind, jealous and deceitful; surely there will be one or two without descendants, and in old age, wealth will be lacking.” Eyebrows are thought to reflect a person’s personality, temperament, and emotions. People with broom eyebrows are often quick-tempered and strong-willed, starting tasks with enthusiasm but lacking perseverance. They may be suspicious, competitive, and intolerant, yet timid and insecure. Their relationships with siblings or friends are usually strained. They tend to be self-interested, prone to petty losses and overspending, making it hard to save money. This is said to be especially evident around ages thirty-three and thirty-four, when people and circumstances feel constraining, leading to discord in finances, marriage, and family.
The misfortunes associated with broom eyebrows are largely attributed to personality traits. If they can improve their character, their lives may improve as well. Moreover, while eyebrows matter in face reading, the eyes must also be considered. If the eyes are poorly shaped, no matter how prominent or refined the eyebrows, achievements may be limited. Conversely, if the eyebrows are somewhat lacking but the eyes are bright and expressive, a person may experience major life changes—though with some emotional sensitivity—and still achieve great success. Therefore, avoid snap judgments based solely on the eyebrows and instead assess the entire facial structure.
