Dr. Zheng: Understanding a Man's Life Through His Eyebrows

According to traditional Chinese physiognomy, hair on the human body includes fine body hair, head hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, nasal hair, armpit hair, and pubic hair. Both men and women have these, although men also have hair unique to their gender, such as beards, chest hair, and leg hair. Among these types, pubic hair is the coarsest, while eyebrows are the finest. The hair that reveals the most about a person's character includes the hair on the head, eyebrows, and pubic hair. Today, Dr. Zheng will focus on men's eyebrows.
1. Eyebrows should be sparse, fine, broad, and long
Eyebrows are a sign of charm. Sparse and fine eyebrows, combined with long eye sockets, a smooth forehead, a broad and moist philtrum, red lips, and a calm demeanor, indicate a kind-hearted person. Therefore, men with these types of eyebrows are considered intelligent. On the other hand, thick, bushy, unruly, or short eyebrows are associated with aggressiveness and stubbornness. Well-shaped, arched eyebrows, along with clear and bright eyes, ears, mouth, and nose, indicate a strong character. Bright eyes, a mature-looking forehead, and thin, yellowish skin suggest prosperity from a young age.
2. Eyebrows with layers reveal natural beauty
Layered eyebrows, meaning some parts are thick while others are thin, create a natural contrast when viewed from afar. In the Three Kingdoms period, Ma Liang was known for his white eyebrows and exceptional talent. Eyebrows with long white hairs are believed to signify longevity; however, it's not ideal to have them appear too early. Traditional Chinese physiognomy suggests: if white hairs appear at twenty, life ends at thirty; if they appear at thirty, life ends at forty; if they appear at forty, one will have a long life.
3. Eyebrows have yin and yang, with yang rising and yin covering
Eyebrows are categorized into yin and yang; yin eyebrows are low and covering, while yang eyebrows rise. Heavy eyebrows are associated with a prominent brow bone. Men, identified with yang, who have prominent yang eyebrows, are seen as strong-willed. If eyebrows lack definition, the person is viewed as lacking ambition. Men embody yang, and women embody yin, which can lead to a joyful life; the opposite results in misfortune. Men with heavy eyebrows might face financial burdens due to women.
4. Short, connected eyebrows indicate challenges for children
At this point, Dr. Zheng would like to discuss the traditional Chinese physiognomy concept of "the unity of heaven and man" as it relates to facial features:
- The five planets: Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, and Saturn represent the left ear, right ear, mouth, forehead, and nose, respectively.
- The six luminaries: the sun, moon, lunar nodes, and stars represent the left eye, right eye, bridge of the nose, left eyebrow, right eyebrow, and the philtrum.
- The five mountains: Hengshan (South), Hengshan (North), Songshan (Central), Taishan (East), and Huashan (West) represent the forehead, chin, nose, left cheek, and right cheek, respectively.
- The four rivers: the Yangtze, Yellow, Huai, and Ji rivers represent the ears, eyes, mouth, and nose, respectively.
The five planets and six luminaries symbolize main celestial phenomena, while the five mountains and four rivers represent primary terrestrial features. This combination makes the human face a microcosm of nature, the universe, and the characteristics of these objects, which signifies prosperity and good fortune; otherwise, it is seen as misfortune and poverty.
Therefore, eyebrows are represented by the stars of Luo and Ji; those with thick, dark eyebrows often have abundant wealth and noble parents. In contrast, short, connected eyebrows might indicate difficulties. In the "six luminaries," eyebrows symbolize the stars of Ji and Luo, while the eyes represent the sun and moon. If eyebrows are too close to the eyes, it indicates encroachment, leading to poverty and misfortune. The "six luminaries" suggest eyebrows govern matters related to wives; well-groomed eyebrows indicate a nurturing family life, while disheveled eyebrows suggest troubled relationships or multiple partners. If uneven, it could indicate worse issues. The area between the eyebrows, the philtrum, is considered "the official position of wealth"; intersecting eyebrows suggest potential financial struggles and a difficult life. Well-shaped eyebrows combined with beautiful eyes inspire respect, kindness, intelligence, a close bond with a spouse, and prosperous offspring.
5. Distinct eyebrows indicate intelligence and adaptability
Distinct eyebrows and eyes, along with an exceptional demeanor, often signify authority and intelligence. Liu Bang, the founder of the Han Dynasty, had a prominent nose and dragon-like features, while Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin, also had dragon-like features. These are emperor characteristics, not of ordinary people.
6. Straight lines above the eyebrows signify good fortune
The ancients said: a straight line above the eyebrows indicates a noble character. This straight line, appearing above both eyebrows, is called a "flagpole." Two flagpoles are a good sign, while one is slightly less favorable.
7. Moles on the eyebrows are a good sign
A mole on the eyebrow is like "a pearl hidden in the grass," which is very auspicious. However, scattered eyebrows may hinder marital relationships, and overly prominent eyebrows may lead to multiple partners. If the distance between the eyebrows and eyes is too close, it's called "eyebrows pressing on the sun and moon," which is unfavorable for children.
8. Straight eyebrows indicate a harsh personality
Traditional physiognomy suggests that men with straight eyebrows tend to have harsh personalities, while eyebrows that grow oppositely may lead to a life filled with disasters.
9. Eyebrows covering the eyes and twisted tails are a bad sign
If the philtrum is needle-thin, eyebrows are tightly furrowed, and the bridge of the nose is broken, it may indicate difficulties in swallowing and a harsh throat. A prominent Adam's apple, skin like ice, and a voice like a broken gong suggest a life of hardship and struggle.
10. Missing forked eyebrows and flickering eyes are a bad sign
Eyebrows reflect interpersonal relationships; a natural gap at the eyebrow's tail, branching into forks, can indicate a peculiar character and insincerity toward others. If their eyes flicker unpredictably, it indicates high insincerity and a tendency to exploit financial and practical benefits.
The above describes ten types of men's eyebrows according to Dr. Zheng. In addition, eyebrows can be categorized based on their shapes, such as ghost eyebrows, arhat eyebrows, broom eyebrows, dagger eyebrows, eight-character eyebrows, willow leaf eyebrows, sword eyebrows, and worm eyebrows, among others. Their meanings are often relatable to their names. Dr. Zheng emphasizes to all that the clarity and brightness between the eyebrows signify the delicacy of marital relationships; women with clear, sparse, and fine eyebrows tend to be considerate toward their husbands, exhibiting kindness, wisdom, and gentleness.
Dr. Zheng Weijian reminds us: Eyebrows are the spiritual sprouts of the gallbladder and are seen as "guardians of longevity." They're considered the ruler, while the eyes represent the subjects. Just as the brilliance of the sun and moon complements the charm of mountains and trees, the eyebrows reflect a person's character, lifespan, wisdom, and social status. Sparse, fine, broad, and long eyebrows that resemble a crescent moon signify intelligence, longevity, and nobility, while thick, unruly, short, and twisted eyebrows are linked to foolishness, aggression, and early death. Upward eyebrows are masculine, while downward eyebrows are feminine, suggesting that upward signifies strength and downward signifies weakness. Consequently, those with straight, upward eyebrows are often seen as harsh, impulsive, combative, and greedy.
Finally, Dr. Zheng addresses a common question: If my eyebrows are not favorable, can I consider eyebrow tattoos or grooming? Dr. Zheng confirms it's certainly possible. At the very least, it can enhance appearance. However, one's fortune is a holistic system that requires coordination from multiple factors. Remember Dr. Zheng Weijian's words: adjustment is the key, and feng shui surrounds us everywhere!
