What Your Face Can Reveal About Your Health
The condition of the body’s internal organs is often thought to be reflected in the face, and certain features may hint at underlying issues. Note: These are traditional associations and not a substitute for medical evaluation. If you have symptoms or concerns, consult a healthcare professional. Here are some facial characteristics that are said to indicate health problems or bodily issues.
1. Black spots on the forehead may suggest serious problems involving the brain. If the forehead looks grimy or speckled, it may point to issues with the lungs or uterus. A dark, dull upper forehead suggests kidney problems. A sudden increase in forehead wrinkles may indicate that the liver is under heavy strain; consider cutting back on oily foods and eating more fruits and vegetables.
2. Rope-like blue veins at the temples may signal a risk of stroke, so be especially cautious.
3. Bluish or whitish discoloration in the whites of the eyes can be a sign of anemia; greenish spots there may suggest intestinal blockage; yellowing of the whites may indicate jaundice or hemolytic disease; red specks in the whites are often associated with diabetes; very pale whites may point to heart issues; and extremely white whites may suggest lung problems.
4. If the tip of the nose is red and frequently develops sores, it points to what traditional Chinese medicine calls “damp-heat” in the spleen and stomach. Men who smoke, drink alcohol, or favor spicy foods often show these signs, and excessive mental stress can also lead to a red tip. If the nose tip appears purple, it may indicate high blood pressure or heavy intake of salt and alcohol. A dark, dry, peeling tip suggests overindulgence and depletion of vital energy and fluids, so moderation is advised.
5. Blackened ears suggest declining kidney energy, often linked with issues like premature ejaculation or nocturnal emissions. Ears that appear increasingly thin are also a sign of kidney deficiency, and men may experience symptoms such as hearing loss, tinnitus, and dizziness. If the ears are red, it suggests problems with the body’s circulatory system.
6. If a man’s lips are bright red, it indicates excessive liver heat and a quick temper, often accompanied by a bitter taste in the mouth and a dry throat. Dark red lips are usually a sign of large-intestine issues; dusky lips indicate digestive dysfunction, which can lead to constipation, diarrhea, headaches, and insomnia. Pale lips are often due to nutritional deficits, poor lifestyle habits, or chronic illness.
7. If a previously rosy complexion suddenly turns dark yellow, it may indicate anemia due to malnutrition. Marked yellowing of the complexion may suggest abnormalities in the liver or gallbladder. A dark, dull, lusterless complexion can indicate chronic conditions such as chronic kidney failure, uremia, liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, late-stage liver and gallbladder disease, or adrenal cortical insufficiency, and warrants prompt medical attention.
