How to Recognize Facial Features That Reflect a Life of "Ups and Downs

Hello everyone, and welcome to this installment of our series on facial features. Today, we're discussing common facial traits of individuals whose lives experience significant highs and lows.
Important note before proceeding: The traits outlined in this article are detailed and should be considered collectively. It's crucial not to draw conclusions based on a single feature alone. Facial features should always be viewed as a whole! Please interpret this information with a rational mind to prevent misunderstandings.
Unbalanced Proportions of the Three Facial Sections
The human face can be divided into three sections that roughly correspond to a person's fortunes in youth, middle age, and old age:
- From the hairline to the eyebrows is the upper section, representing youth.
- From the eyebrows to the tip of the nose is the middle section, representing middle age.
- From the tip of the nose to the chin is the lower section, representing old age.
Generally, a balanced distribution of these sections is considered favorable. This doesn't mean they have to be equal, but the differences should be minimal to ensure smooth and stable fortunes. Conversely, noticeable imbalances can indicate considerable life fluctuations.

The distribution of these three sections is deeply connected to a person's inner thoughts:
A significantly unbalanced distribution might suggest that one's fortunes will fluctuate dramatically, affecting their mindset and leading to feelings of insecurity. Such individuals might experience volatility in their thoughts and emotions;
On the other hand, a relatively balanced three-section distribution tends to accompany steadier life experiences. These people may not be excessively optimistic, but their stability gives them a high sense of security.
So, if there's a noticeable disparity in the distribution of the sections, or if the features within each section vary greatly (for instance, a low, flat forehead with an elongated middle section and a strong nose), it suggests a life marked by ups and downs; early challenges might eventually lead to middle age success.
Regarding these sections, there are two additional points I'd like to emphasize:
For those with a large disparity or imbalance among the three sections, encountering difficult times (such as a problematic middle section in middle age) might lead to mental instability and negative thinking. Attention to mental well-being is crucial—maintaining a positive mindset is the initial step towards improving one's fortunes;
Those with low, narrow, and uneven foreheads combined with a messy hairline often face difficulties tied to their family or childhood. It's understood that early family experiences play a significant role in shaping character, influencing not just early fortunes but potentially life as a whole. Therefore, addressing unresolved childhood issues is essential to moving forward.
"Asymmetrical" Traits
Asymmetrical facial shapes and features can also signify unstable fortunes, suggesting a likeliness of notable life fluctuations.
Visible traits such as uneven facial sizes and mismatched eye sizes are examples of this asymmetry. People showing these features often experience internal conflict, leading to self-doubt and insecurity. The more pronounced the asymmetry, the more turbulent their internal world and mental state.
Indeed, such asymmetries often indicate unstable fortunes and mindsets. The combined instability increases the potential for significant life fluctuations.
However, certain asymmetries, like mixed single and double eyelids, might lend themselves to more flexible or cunning personalities but can also result in mood swings and internal conflict (ultimately leading to instability).
Individuals with facial asymmetry may struggle with internal conflicts, often overthinking and undermining their ability to act decisively—an aspect that needs improvement.
Another asymmetrical feature worth discussing is the nasolabial folds.
While often considered unattractive, pronounced and deep nasolabial folds between the ages of 30 and 50 can signal prosperous career and health conditions.
However, asymmetrical nasolabial folds suggest instability: uneven lengths or breaks in these folds usually mean numerous career setbacks and a volatile personality, thus increasing life fluctuations.
In my observations, people who frequently change jobs or face career difficulties often have asymmetrical nasolabial folds, where one side is deeper or longer than the other.
Nasolabial folds' significance can also relate to their timing. Normally:
- Prominent nasolabial folds appearing in youth (before age 30) suggest early hardships and a lack of parental support, requiring self-reliance and struggle;
- Folds that develop in middle age (30s to 50s) with a typical shape may be purely physiological and not worrisome;
- Folds that become evident in old age (after 50) are known as "longevity lines," symbolizing a long life and are considered favorable.
Issues with the Nose Bridge and Root
The nose, particularly the bridge and root, is another facial area to watch for signs of significant life fluctuations.
Since the nose is closely linked to career and financial luck, it holds substantial influence over middle age fortunes—a critical period for career development.
- Broken Nose Root: A broken nose root often signifies "obstacles," especially in career matters. During middle age, individuals should also focus on health and family matters. While a broken root doesn't directly correlate with achievement levels, it does affect whether life proceeds smoothly or with many fluctuations.
- Humped Nose Bridge: A humped nose, visible as bumps rather than a straight line from the side, can indicate a life of ups and downs. Those with a humped nose often need to manage their temper and impatience, as these traits can exacerbate personality issues.
- Slanted Nose Bridge: A slanted nose bridge, especially when combined with thin lips and a small mouth, suggests a tendency towards indecision or cunning behavior. In terms of fortune, this can increase trial-and-error costs or, in severe cases, lead to poor decisions and setbacks.
Let me also highlight the significance of "Nose Root Connecting to the Yintang": (This refers to the nose root and Yintang being smoothly connected without dips or interruptions, with the nose root not significantly lower than the Yintang.) This is considered a highly favorable nose shape, symbolizing acclaim, influence, favorable benefactor fortune, and a smooth career trajectory, enhancing overall life stability.
Prominent Facial Scars
If we view facial features as reflections of one's life, facial scars often correspond to various challenges and obstacles faced.
Most scars are the result of skin injuries, termed as "broken features." Unlike congenital moles and birthmarks, scars from injuries generally have a negative impact.
While small, inconspicuous scars are not particularly concerning, prominent scars can introduce instability and uncertainty into one's life. As noted earlier, "smooth" is rarely associated with those who have notable facial scars.
In facial analysis, "time" can be used to examine fortune over the years, and "function" can categorize different aspects. Generally, noticeable scars on the face can disrupt life smoothness, with the specific location of scars providing additional insights:
For instance, a scar on the nose tip indicates unstable financial luck; one at the eye corner suggests marital or relationship instability, including frequent romantic issues; a scar in the middle of the forehead might indicate workplace difficulties, especially for public sector employees. See the below image for specific scar locations and associated "volatile" life aspects—

Female Features: "Large Bones, Little Flesh"
A face balanced in both bone structure and flesh is typically associated with maturity and masculine characteristics.
Prior articles have highlighted the importance of cheekbones; "cheek" signifies "power." Those with high and pronounced cheekbones often possess strong opinions and the drive to pursue their goals, embodying the concept of "women as strong as men."
Women with noticeable jawbones are often competitive, determined, and self-reliant. If both jawbone and cheekbone are prominent, the individual may appear "strong." Such features often correspond to a forceful personality.
However, if a woman's bones are prominent but lack sufficient flesh, leading to a gaunt or hollow cheek appearance, it may enhance life difficulties. It’s also important to consider the eyes:
Good eye features might mean enduring hardships but achieving results; poor eye features, marked by dark circles or hollows, could lead to little gain from hard work, resulting in a more tumultuous fortune.
