Facial Analysis: What is "Pig Ear"?

In the study of facial features, the ears are known as the "auditory organs," linking the brain with the heart and serving as the control center for both the heart and kidneys. The ears are also seen as the gateway to the face, marking the beginning of youth and influencing a person's fortune from ages one to fourteen, which is why they are referred to as the "foundation organs." A skilled physiognomist first examines the color of the ears and then the shape. Ideally, the ears should be bright and fair, flat and open, and close to the flesh; they should not be drooping, thin, or misaligned. The earlobes should be large rather than small, thick rather than thin. Good ear features are defined by clear contours, large and long shape, and a semicircular form resembling a crescent moon, suggesting wisdom. Round, large, and rosy ears are signs of wealth, while dark red suggests poverty, and white indicates fame. Thick and firm, upright, and long ears denote longevity; thick and round ears indicate honesty and abundance in food and clothing; thick and bright red ears are highly prized. Conversely, round and thin ears suggest a short lifespan; ears that are straight like an arrow point to loneliness and poverty; ears that are pointed, coarse, and dark can suggest poverty and foolishness; narrow ears that cannot fit a finger signify shallow ambitions and a short life span.

Below, we introduce a type of ear shape considered ominous—pig ears.

I. Characteristics of Pig Ears

Pig ears are characterized by being large but lacking defined contours, thick yet soft and weak, with a slightly drooping ear rim and no earlobes, resembling those of a pig.

II. Misfortunes Associated with Pig Ears in Old Age

A poem from the "Mayi Shenyang" notes: “Though thick, the ears lack contours; whether they droop or not, they bring no benefit in wealth or status, leading to many disasters in old age.” Those with pig ears tend to be lazy, have a strong tendency towards lethargy, and are often ignorant and greedy, with a penchant for wealth and indulgence in food and drink. They may achieve temporary wealth if other features are favorable, but even if they gain riches, they are likely to encounter various misfortunes in later years, resulting in illness and hardship.
