Feng Shui and BaZi: Why You’re Having Recurring Nightmares
Everyone experiences dreams differently. Some people dream frequently, others rarely—and that’s usually nothing to worry about. But some people are prone to nightmares, which can seriously disrupt rest and create lingering stress or anxiety. So when are nightmares more likely to occur? We can look at this from two main aspects:
1. From the perspective of Feng Shui
1. If a window faces the southeast and there are tall buildings or sharp, pointed structures outside—or a tall white building—this feng shui setup is thought to make nightmares more likely. In severe cases, it may even cloud one’s thinking and affect mental well-being. In the Bagua, the southeast belongs to the Xun palace and corresponds to wind. When that “wind” stirs the mind, and with the Po Jun star influencing the southeast, nightmares are more likely to occur.
Adjustment Method: Place a bowl of water or set up an aquarium in the southeast to help neutralize these influences. This placement can also support academics and learning.
2. When the kitchen is located in the northwest, this feng shui combination can also contribute to nightmares. In the Five Elements, the northwest (Qian) corresponds to metal, while the kitchen corresponds to fire; fire conflicts with metal. Because Qian represents the head, this clash can create mental pressure and lead to recurring nightmares for members of the household.
Adjustment Method: Position the stove so it sits north and faces south, using the north’s water element to temper the kitchen’s fire. This should naturally reduce or even eliminate nightmares.
2. From the perspective of destiny analysis
1. In a BaZi chart, when Zheng Guan (Direct Officer) and Qi Sha (Seven Killings) are abundant while Zheng Yin (Direct Resource), Pian Yin (Indirect Resource), or Shi Shen (Eating God) and Shang Guan (Hurting Officer) are scarce or absent, there is a strong tendency toward nightmares. Why? In this framework, Zheng Guan and Qi Sha represent forces that restrain or “control” you—akin to oppressive or ghostly influences. Without outlets provided by Resource, Eating God, or Hurting Officer, that pressure has nowhere to go and concentrates in the head, manifesting as nightmares.
Adjustment Method: First, avoid sleeping with your feet pointing toward the element associated with your Zheng Guan and Qi Sha. For example, if they are tied to fire, avoid sleeping facing south. You can also address this by formally acknowledging parental guidance or by becoming a godparent—both approaches are considered effective.
2. In a BaZi chart, when Zheng Yin and Pian Yin are strong while Zheng Cai (Direct Wealth), Pian Cai (Indirect Wealth), or Shi Shen and Shang Guan are weak or absent, nightmares can also occur. Unlike the Guan-and-Sha pattern above, this combination tends to produce long-term nightmares regardless of life pressures, often involving dreams of deceased relatives or past events.
Adjustment Method: For individuals in this category, nightmares often lessen after having children.
There are many ways to improve these situations, but the approach should match the specifics. In general, the quickest relief is to adjust your environment and habits, which can effectively ease the issue.
