How to Handle Nightmares

Regardless of age or gender, many people are frequently startled and bewildered by strange and bizarre dreams, feeling as if they've been plagued by nightmares: "I had a terrible nightmare last night and couldn't sleep well." It often feels as though an inexplicable force is weighing down on you, making it difficult to breathe. While people wish to escape these nightmares, they find themselves unable to open their eyes or move. It is only when they feel they can endure no more that they finally wake up and break free from their ordeal.

What exactly are dreams? Ancient texts like the Book of Dreams by Zhou Gong and modern interpretations by Freud have sought to unravel the mysteries of dreams. Contemporary psychology, neuroscience, and brain science also aim to understand dreams, yet none can fully encompass the limitless possibilities of dreamscapes. Today, Dr. Zheng will share strategies for dealing with nightmares. No matter where you are or which bed you're sleeping in, if you unfortunately experience a nightmare, please follow Dr. Zheng's methods outlined below, as they may help alleviate ominous feelings and soothe your mind:

  • After waking up, refrain from discussing your dream, no matter how sinister or terrifying, until you've completed the following steps.
  • Upon getting out of bed, first determine the cardinal directions of your room, then proceed to the west wall.
  • With your right index finger, draw clockwise circles on the west wall continuously.
  • While drawing the circles, softly chant: "Dream of misfortune, drawn on the west wall; when the sun rises, it transforms into good fortune." Repeat this three times.
  • Dr. Zheng advises you not to visit the bathroom until you’ve finished the above steps; otherwise, the method’s effectiveness may diminish.
  • If you experience nightmares for several consecutive nights, employ this method no more than three times in a row, as exceeding this limit will not enhance its effectiveness.
  • If recurrent nightmares accompany poor physical, emotional, or financial conditions, it might indicate that your home’s feng shui needs adjustment.

Special Reminder from Dr. Zheng Wei Jian:

  • While we dream every night, the meanings can vary. Some dreams have prophetic importance, and Dr. Zheng has extensively written on this topic.
  • Dreams also come in colors; some colors suggest good fortune, while others indicate adverse omens. For more insights, refer to Dr. Zheng's blog posts.
  • Dr. Zheng specifically notes that if continuous nightmares lead to poor sleep, nervous exhaustion, physical depletion, and declining fortunes, there may be issues with your home's feng shui that require adjustment. Bad dreams have their reasons; they relate to your destiny and your living space’s feng shui. Analyze and adjust your home’s feng shui carefully. Remember Dr. Zheng’s advice: Adjustments are crucial; feng shui surrounds us all.
