Main Malefic Patterns:
- Azure Dragon Escapes (Dragon Escapes): Heaven’s Plate contains Yi Qi; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Xin. Servants may run away, livestock may suffer, financial loss and ruin are likely, and all endeavors are inauspicious.
- White Tiger Rampant (Tiger Rampant): Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Xin; Earth’s Plate contains Yi Qi. Harm befalls both host and guest. Not suitable for taking action. Going out and returning may bring fear; marriage and construction are highly inauspicious; long journeys can invite disaster.
- Vermilion Bird Dives into the River (Bird Dives into the River): Heaven’s Plate contains Ding Qi; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Gui. All matters are inauspicious; documents and quarrels end poorly; news is suppressed; fear and anomalies arise.
- Soaring Serpent Twists (Serpent Twists): Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Gui; Earth’s Plate contains Ding Qi. Unfavorable for all matters, prone to false alarms, unrest, document troubles, and lawsuits.
- White Venus Enters the Fire (Venus Enters Fire): Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Geng; Earth’s Plate contains Bing Qi. Geng corresponds to White Venus and Bing to the Fire Star; thus Geng plus Bing is called White Venus Enters the Fire. Favorable to the guest but harmful to the host; guard against thieves; suitable for ambushes in the north.
- Fire Enters the Metal Town (Fire Enters White Venus): Heaven’s Plate contains Bing Qi; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Geng. Favorable to the host; withdraw rather than charge—thieves may retreat in fear. Year Pattern: Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Geng; Earth’s Plate contains Bing Qi—undertakings are extremely inauspicious.
- Moon Pattern: Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Geng; Earth’s Plate contains the Moon Stem. Undertakings are extremely inauspicious.
- Sun Pattern (Hidden Stem Pattern): Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Geng; Earth’s Plate contains the Sun Stem. Undertakings are inauspicious. Time Pattern: Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Geng; Earth’s Plate contains the Time Stem—undertakings are inauspicious.
- Great Pattern: Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Geng; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Gui. All matters are inauspicious; seeking assistance is futile and may invite calamity; building leads to financial loss; travel risks vehicle breakdown or the death of horses.
- Upper Pattern (Minor Pattern): Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Geng; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Ren. Long journeys risk getting lost; seeking plans brings loss of money and illness.
- Punishment Pattern: Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Geng; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Yi. Those in charge may be punished; seeking plans leads to loss of money and illness.
- Strange Pattern: Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Geng; Earth’s Plate contains the three Qis of Yi, Bing, and Ding. Travel or military action is greatly inauspicious. Flying Stem Pattern: Heaven’s Plate contains the Sun Stem; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Geng—host and guest both suffer in battle.
- Hidden Stem Pattern (Sun Pattern): Harm to both host and guest, especially adverse to the host. Heavenly Yi Hidden Palace Pattern: Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Geng; Earth’s Plate contains the current time’s leading stem. Unfavorable to both host and guest; seeking help is futile; waiting on others is in vain.
- Heavenly Yi Flying Palace Pattern: Heaven’s Plate contains the Direct Stem; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Geng. Unfavorable to both host and guest, especially adverse to the guest.
- Three Qis Enter the Grave: Heaven’s Plate contains Yi Qi; Earth’s Plate is Qian Six Palace (Yi Yin Wood grows in Wu, its grave is in Xu). Heaven’s Plate contains Bing Qi; Earth’s Plate is Qian Six Palace. Heaven’s Plate contains Ding Qi; Earth’s Plate is Gen Eight Palace (Ding Yin Fire dwells eternally in You, its grave is in Chou). When the three Qis enter the grave, nothing is suitable; seeking matters is futile.
- Six Instruments Strike Punishment: Heaven’s Plate contains Jia Zi; Earth’s Plate is Zhen Three Palace (Zi punishes Mao). Heaven’s Plate contains Jia Xu; Earth’s Plate is Kun Two Palace (Xu punishes Wei). Heaven’s Plate contains Jia Shen; Earth’s Plate is Gen Eight Palace (Shen punishes Yin). Heaven’s Plate contains Jia Wu; Earth’s Plate is Li Nine Palace (Wu punishes itself). Heaven’s Plate contains Jia Chen; Earth’s Plate is Xun Four Palace (Chen punishes itself). Heaven’s Plate contains Jia Yin; Earth’s Plate is Xun Four Palace (Yin punishes Si). When the Six Instruments strike punishment it is extremely inauspicious; even when the Six Instruments are Direct Stems, they should not be used. Heavenly Net Four Zhang: Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Gui; Earth’s Plate contains the Time Stem. The Heavenly Net Four Zhang cannot be withstood; acting now invites disaster. Forcing a breakthrough leads to immediate bloodshed. If located from Kan One to Xun Four Palace, the net is low and can be crawled under; from Zhong Five to Li Nine Palace, the net is high and escape is difficult—do not use.
- Earth Net Obscured: Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Ren; Earth’s Plate contains the Time Stem. Not suitable for military action; travel is greatly inauspicious. Nine Stars Hidden Recitation: When stars remain in their own palaces without movement. Wearing mourning attire can portend loss of life. Direct Stem Hidden Recitation: When Liu Jia remains in its own palace on the Heaven’s Plate without movement, it is advisable to hide troops.
- Nine Stars Reverse Recitation: The stars on the Heaven’s Plate fall into the Earth’s Plate’s opposing palaces. All matters are inauspicious.
- Direct Stem Reverse Recitation: Heaven’s Plate contains Jia Zi while Earth’s Plate contains Jia Wu; Heaven’s Plate contains Jia Xu while Earth’s Plate contains Jia Chen; Heaven’s Plate contains Jia Shen while Earth’s Plate contains Jia Yin. Calamity will arrive; even encountering Qimen offers no relief.
- Eight Gates Hidden Recitation: The gates fall into the opposing palaces. All matters are inauspicious; even auspicious indications should not be used.
- Five Not Meeting the Time: The Time Stem overcomes the Day Stem. All matters are inauspicious; even with auspicious gates, they should not be used. “Time Stem overcomes Day Stem” specifically refers to:
- Jia day at Geng Wu time; Yi day at Xin Si time; Bing day at Ren Chen time; Ding day at Gui Mao time; Wu day at Jia Yin time
- Yi day at Yi Chou time; Geng day at Bing Zi time; Xin day at Ding You time; Ren day at Wu Shen time; Gui day at Yi Wei time
Main Auspicious Patterns:
- Azure Dragon Turns Back (Dragon Turns Back): Heaven’s Plate contains Liu Wu (Jia Zi); Earth’s Plate contains Bing Qi. Highly favorable. If encountering a gate that overcomes its palace, or if the Earth’s Plate is Zhen Three Palace (striking punishment), the auspicious may turn inauspicious.
- Flying Bird Falls into the Hole (Bird Falls into the Hole): Heaven’s Plate contains Bing Qi; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Wu (Jia Zi). Matters proceed smoothly and clearly.
- Heavenly Escape: Heaven’s Plate contains Bing Qi; Central Plate contains Sheng Men; Earth’s Plate contains Ding Qi. Sheng Men signifies growth; under the influence of lunar energy, all matters flourish. Favorable for writing, seeking office, trade, concealment, marriage, and more.
- Earthly Escape: Heaven’s Plate contains Yi Qi; Central Plate contains Kai Men; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Yi. This escape opens the way to success; under the protection of solar essence, all matters are auspicious. Suitable for encampments, hiding troops, construction, fleeing, and burial.
- Human Escape: Heaven’s Plate contains Ding Qi; Central Plate contains Xiu Men; Divine Plate contains Tai Yin. Benefiting from stellar protection; suitable for negotiations, probing secrets, concealment, recruiting talent, marriage, trade, and offering counsel.
- Cloud Escape: Heaven’s Plate contains Yi Qi; Central Plate contains the three auspicious gates—Kai, Xiu, and Sheng; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Xin. Benefiting from cloud essence; suitable for praying for rain, establishing camps, and making weapons.
- Wind Escape: Heaven’s Plate contains Yi Qi; Central Plate contains the three auspicious gates—Kai, Xiu, and Sheng; Earth’s Plate is Xun Four Palace. If the wind comes from the northwest, attack with the wind; if the wind comes from the east and the enemy is in the east or south, do not engage.
- Dragon Escape: Heaven’s Plate contains Yi Qi; Central Plate contains the three auspicious gates—Kai, Xiu, and Sheng; Earth’s Plate is Kan One Palace or contains Liu Gui. Suitable for praying for rain, waterworks, bridge repair, and well digging.
- Tiger Escape: Heaven’s Plate contains Yi Qi; Central Plate contains Xiu Men; Earth’s Plate contains Liu Xin in Gen Eight Palace. Suitable for inducing surrender, establishing camps, and guarding.
- Divine Escape: Heaven’s Plate contains Bing Qi; Central Plate contains Sheng Men; Divine Plate contains Jiu Tian. Suitable for striking the weak, opening roads, damming rivers, and creating statues.
- Ghost Escape: Heaven’s Plate contains Ding Qi; Central Plate contains Du Men; Divine Plate contains Jiu Di. Suitable for surprise attacks and exploiting vulnerabilities.
- Three Qis Obtain Use: Heaven’s Plate contains Yi Qi with Earth’s Plate at Jia Xu or Jia Wu; Heaven’s Plate contains Bing Qi with Earth’s Plate at Jia Zi or Jia Shen; Heaven’s Plate contains Ding Qi with Earth’s Plate at Jia Chen or Jia Yin. When “obtaining use,” the configuration can be employed; even without auspicious gates, minor assistance remains.
- Jade Maiden Guards the Gate: When the Gate Plate’s Direct Stem pairs with Ding Qi on the Earth’s Plate. Favorable for marriage, romance, meetings, and celebrations.
- Escape of the Six Stems: Six Jia paired with Yang stars favors opening. Be proactive; all endeavors are auspicious.
- Sun Qi Hidden Recitation: Heaven’s Plate contains Yi Qi alongside Yi Qi on the Earth’s Plate. Indicates stasis; not suitable for pursuing matters.
