Do You Have Good Person Syndrome?

12.4K views

By "good person" here, we mean the kind of "nice guy" who always says the right things in front of others, seeks approval, and meets others' demands without question, too afraid to say no. The "goodness" such people display is often not genuine; it's simply a tool they use to maintain relationships.

In fact, many of these "good people" faced family problems in childhood. A lack of love at home keeps them from knowing their true selves and leads to low self-esteem. They believe they'll be loved only if they help others and accepted only if they meet others' expectations. But while they're busy meeting others' demands insincerely, their own needs get pushed down, leaving them unhappy and lowering their sense of well-being. Over time, they may lose their sense of self, live by others' standards, and struggle to find their true direction in life.

To live well, you need to understand yourself, know your strengths and weaknesses, do what you do best, build solid self-confidence, value your own needs, express your feelings honestly, and connect with others sincerely. Genuinely care for people, but also learn to say no to unreasonable demands. In truth, only by honoring your inner needs will you earn others' respect; only by cherishing yourself will you truly be respected; and only by believing you are worthy of love will you receive more of it.

Wonder if you have "good person syndrome"? Start by answering the questions below.

A: When someone asks you for something, do you think "no" inside but say "yes" out loud?

B: Do you crave approval from the people around you?

C: Do you feel upset when someone gets unhappy with you because you made a reasonable request?
