What Your Fingernails Reveal About Your Destiny

In my previous post titled "My Views on the I Ching and Traditional Chinese Medicine," I discussed the close connection between the I Ching and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Nails are considered an external reflection of the internal organs and blood, directly linked to the body's organs and meridians. Nail patterns can mirror physiological and pathological changes in the body. For this reason, both TCM and studies of the I Ching often observe nail patterns to assess a person's health and potential shifts or crises in fortune. So, what patterns can nails show, and what fate changes might they suggest?

I. Nail Patterns

Changes in the nails—such as horizontal or vertical lines and spots—can indicate not only dysfunction or damage within the body but also carry implications for one's fortune. If the nail surface is uneven with straight ridges, it generally signals an unlucky year; horizontal lines may suggest "financial leaks" in your living environment or issues with money management; white spots can indicate potential conflicts in career or relationships, calling for caution to avoid risky investments and financial losses.

II. Shape

Nails that are relatively long, with a raised center and curved edges, typically indicate a strong, supportive partner for women, though they should beware of interference from a third party. Nails that are narrow at the base and wide at the tip, forming a fan shape, are often seen on strong-willed individuals; for women, this may reflect a career-driven personality, with a tendency toward late marriage or divorce. Round nails, regardless of gender, suggest a harmonious marriage, but it's wise to avoid premarital pregnancy.

III. Luster

Individuals with good fortune usually have nails that are smooth, glossy, and evenly colored—typically a healthy pink. Changes in nail color may signal issues with health or fortune that require attention. If there are bright spots or stripes on the nails, or if the entire nail looks glossy as if oiled yet becomes thinner, it may mean your good luck has peaked and is beginning to wane, suggesting a review of your home feng shui and fate. Uneven luster—shiny at the tip but rough and dull at the base—may point to unstable wealth, career obstacles, or financial leaks. If the entire nail is rough and lacks luster, it could foreshadow legal troubles or even a health crisis and should be taken seriously.

Finally, note that healthy nails usually show a white crescent at the base. Ideally, this appears on all five fingers. If the thumb lacks this crescent, it may indicate a serious nutritional deficiency. If you experience sudden nail breakage or bleeding, or any significant injury, proceed with caution to avoid unnecessary trouble or bad luck, and take steps to counter any ominous signs in your fate and surroundings.
