Your Eyes Reveal Your Attitude Toward Gender
Conversations about gender—especially how men and women relate—seem endless. Everyone has their own thoughts and feelings, and those emotions often show in the eyes.
In physiognomy, analysis related to gender doesn’t focus only on the eyes; other features also matter. Even so, the eyes are often treated as a barometer of dynamics between the sexes.
The eyes directly express emotion. Women with large, round, shining eyes are often more likely to draw romantic attention. Such women may seek acknowledgment from the opposite sex to affirm their charm. The more attention they receive, the more excited they become, which can sometimes be misread and prompt further pursuit—one way romantic attraction takes shape.
Men with large eyes tend to enjoy romance and connect easily with women. They are often a topic of private conversation among women and are known for frequenting social venues.
Women with smaller eyes tend to be more reserved and introspective, with subtle thoughts. If the eyes are very narrow, it can suggest repression or melancholy, leading to a more passive emotional state. In Chinese culture, the ideal eye shape for women is the "phoenix" eye—broad and oval, with a hooked outer corner and a fine, straight tail. This shape is said to balance emotion, neither overly expressive nor suppressed, and is regarded as beautiful. For men, having small eyes is not inherently good or bad; it depends on one’s disposition. Small eyes can suggest depth of character, but if they are small and puffy, it may imply excessive greed. If they are small and obliquely set, it could point to deceitful intentions.
Some traditions also distinguish between the left and right eyes: the right is associated with the female aspect, the left with the male. If a woman's right eye is larger and more vibrant than her left, it may suggest she believes in female superiority, viewing male submission as natural and the reverse as unacceptable. Likewise, if a man's right eye is larger, he may be more influenced by women and feel less confident or more timid around them.
If the eyes are widely spaced, regardless of gender, it suggests slower emotional awareness and a tendency to misjudge based on surface impressions. Conversely, very close-set eyes may indicate sensitivity and meticulousness; if such eyes also show excitement, it can reflect shrewd or cunning intentions.
Men and women whose outer eye corners are drooping, lax, or weak are often seen as quick to abandon their emotions or as seeking the pleasures of romance without the responsibilities that come with it.
