Health Insights from Facial Features: The Nose

In physiognomy, the nose is called the "Palace of Illness," believed to reflect a person's overall health. It is also the gateway to the lungs and the passageway for breathing. Therefore, observing the nose’s shape, color, and texture is thought to offer clues about the condition of the internal organs and possible ailments.

Generally, when someone is healthy and in good spirits, the nose appears pink or bright yellow. However, if the nose shows the following conditions, it may suggest issues with specific organs that deserve attention.

1. Hard Nose

A hard-feeling nose is considered an abnormal sign, suggesting possible hardening of the arteries in the heart. It is also said that high cholesterol and excess fat around the heart can make the nose feel hard.

2. Swollen Nose

If there is a lump on the nose, it is usually taken to indicate problems with the pancreas or kidneys. If the tip of the nose is swollen, it is thought to be a sign of fluid retention related to the heart.

3. Poor Skin Color on the Bridge of the Nose

  • A dull or darkened bridge of the nose, as if covered with black dust, is seen as a sign of poor health and potential hidden illness, especially issues related to water retention or the kidneys.
  • A bluish hue on the bridge of the nose suggests weak resistance and a compromised immune system, indicating a need for more physical activity, better sleep habits, and a diet rich in immune-supporting foods.
  • If the tip of the nose is red and there are frequent sores or abscesses around it, this may indicate significant mental stress or excessive use of alcohol, tobacco, or spicy foods, leading to damp-heat in the spleen and stomach. Adjust habits promptly to avoid harming the body.
  • A purple hue at the tip of the nose may point to high blood pressure or excessive intake of salt and alcohol.
  • The sudden appearance of rosacea on the nose tip is viewed as a sign of heat in the lungs and stomach with blood stasis; it may also occur in men experiencing reduced sexual function and should be taken seriously.
  • A dark, dry, peeling nose tip suggests overindulgence that depletes bodily fluids and vital energy and should be controlled.

4. Poor Nose Shape

If the bridge of the nose is curved, it may suggest a hereditary condition. In addition, some sources claim that individuals with a hooked nose are more prone to throat pain or foot cancer; those with a flat nose have a higher risk of brain cancer and lymphoma; individuals with a large, thick nose are more susceptible to colon and pancreatic cancer; and those with a prominent nose are more likely to develop liver and breast cancer. These observations reflect traditional beliefs and reported associations and are not diagnostic; always seek professional medical advice for health concerns.

If you notice any of the above, pay attention to your health. Build good habits, maintain a balanced diet, avoid excessive fatigue, exercise regularly, and keep a calm mindset to support well-being. If you are concerned about any symptoms, consult a healthcare professional.
