In 1781, British amateur astronomer William Herschel used a telescope he constructed himself to observe the sky. He discovered a faint star near the constellation Gemini, which turned out to be a new planet—the seventh planet of our solar system—later named Uranus.

Uranus's discovery coincided with a new era marked by the sweeping changes of the Industrial Revolution, reflecting its disruptive nature and emphasis on freedom and rapid transformation. Uranus takes about eighty-four years to complete one cycle through the zodiac. It is exalted in Aquarius and finds its domicile in Scorpio, where it best expresses positive traits like creativity, a love for uniqueness, and the ability to lead an extraordinary and rich life. Conversely, when Uranus is in Leo or Taurus, its negative traits are heightened, such as turmoil, eccentricity, fanaticism, irresponsibility, and self-centeredness.

Scientists calculated Uranus's trajectory and used these calculations to predict its position. At the end of 2019, Jupiter in Capricorn will form a 120-degree aspect with Uranus.
