Susan Miller Astrology: How Uranus in Aries Affects Pisces
Translator: Dou Dou Zhuan Zhuan de Deng
Dear readers: Please read the Preface first. By the time you finish this article, you may see how this astrological event relates to you. Be sure to read for both your Sun and Rising signs.
Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun, the third largest by diameter (bigger than Neptune), and the fourth most massive (less massive than Neptune). Its name comes from Uranus, the sky god in ancient Greek mythology, father of Cronus and grandfather of Zeus (known as Jupiter in Roman mythology). In astrology, Uranus represents rebellion, breakthroughs, and reformist thinking. Its placement in a natal chart speaks to a person’s capacity for change and their pursuit of originality.
From an astrological perspective, whenever a planet beyond the asteroid belt (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) enters a new sign, it signals a fresh start and stirs exciting influences. Uranus, the planet of surprises and sudden developments, entered Aries on March 11, 2011, and will stay there for seven years, bringing notable effects. The world has already begun to show signs of change. What will Uranus in Aries mean for the twelve signs? Here is renowned astrologer Susan Miller’s analysis for Pisces.
If your Sun or Rising sign is Pisces, the period from 2003 to early 2011—when Uranus (the planet of change, surprises, independence, and innovation) traveled through Pisces—was especially significant. Over those years, you evolved into a more unique version of yourself, expressing your distinctive style in fresh, compelling ways.
To help you fully grasp the impact of Uranus in Aries (2011–2019), let’s briefly revisit the past several years, because they were truly extraordinary for you. Everything you did then will strongly influence your financial picture going forward.
Let’s start when Uranus first entered Pisces in 2003. From then through early 2011, you likely experienced many ups and downs, but ultimately, the result elevated your awareness, creativity, and individuality. Whatever you were doing, Uranus encouraged you to approach life in completely new ways. You may have endured a couple of tough setbacks, but you also celebrated exhilarating victories.
As you’ve seen, the harder you fell, the higher you bounced back. Your overall energy expanded in compelling ways, and you moved through stimulating, wide‑ranging experiences, meeting influential people eager to help. In the process, you began re-evaluating yourself and what you’re capable of. Think back to who you were in March 2003 and compare that to who you are now—you’ll see how far you’ve come.
Uranus can also bring fame; in recent years, you may have become a leader in your field. However, recognition doesn’t always translate into income. If your compensation hasn’t kept pace with your rising profile, now is your chance to see improvement.
Uranus champions experimentation and innovation to spark new discoveries. No matter how good things are, Uranus says they can be better and more in tune with the times. It’s often called the higher octave of Mercury, propelling Mercury’s qualities—curiosity, communication, and mental agility—toward insight and even genius.
Uranus looks to the future and ignores traditions ruled by Saturn. Uranus tells us that rules can be fairly broken and urges us to lead the times, not just keep up with them. The intuitive flashes Uranus provides about what’s coming often arrive before we consciously notice the hushed beginnings—before whispers turn to shouts.
As a Pisces, you often sense these shifts easily, and Uranus’s recent journey through Pisces heightened your sensitivity to political and cultural change. You likely have a strong feel for what the market will want next. Still, the ideas you generated during that powerful Uranus period may not have been immediately understood or supported, which helps explain any financial disappointment you’ve felt. Now is the time for your ideas to be adopted—and to bring the financial rewards you’ve been waiting for.
That conjunction period—when Uranus moved through Pisces from 2003 to early 2011—put the spotlight on your Sun sign and marked the start of a new personal cycle. You’ve just come through a life‑changing turning point. What you set in motion then will now enter its second phase—your second house of income. Uranus will occupy the income sector of your natal chart from March 2011 until March 2019. Uranus takes 84 years to orbit the Sun, spending about seven years in each sign. What comes next is entirely new, as most of you were not alive the last time Uranus toured Aries, from 1927 to 1935.
To be clear, the house Uranus will emphasize in the coming years is your personal money house—the second house. This is not the eighth house of “other people’s money,” which covers joint assets such as credit, taxes, divorce settlements, bank loans, venture capital, scholarships, and other funding. Here, we’re focused on your own earnings—what you bring in, spend, save, and invest.
I don’t want to confuse you, though: you have recently had a strong emphasis on the eighth house because Saturn (the planet of lessons) has been transiting your eighth house since July 2010 and will finish in October 2012. During this period, you learned to deal with banks, insurance, credit, taxes, and identity protection—valuable real‑world financial experience.
As noted, Saturn will wrap up its eighth‑house transit by October 2012 and won’t be back until 2039. You’ll be free of Saturn’s pressure there, which is a relief. Uranus is not focused on that house now; the theme here is your second house of income—your personal finances.
With Uranus entering your second house, you can validate your ideas and creativity and find ways to turn them into tangible gains. Uranus in Aries (the zodiac’s most entrepreneurial and adventurous sign) points to new business ventures, whether full‑time or on the side. If it doesn’t happen immediately, watch the end of the transit in March 2019—things may crystallize then.
The second house governs financial security and could become your burning priority. Because it’s a practical, stabilizing house, you won’t chase unrealistic schemes or get stuck waiting for “perfect conditions” that never arrive. Instead, you’ll favor practical methods and applications, letting financial pragmatism lead rather than deferring to some uncertain future.
Uranus is the planet most associated with freedom. In your second house, it will heighten your desire for economic independence while you build security. At first, Uranus can feel disruptive—especially around income—but over time you’ll master its influence. Uranus will teach you why you need a financial system and how to prepare for life’s changes. Sudden developments are part of the package, so stay calm and respond quickly. Pisces is a mutable sign—adaptability is your gift. Now apply that talent to your money life.
Among Uranus’s many effects, one of the best is the possibility of a sudden windfall at some point over the next seven years. You’ll also need to manage it wisely so it doesn’t leave as fast as it arrives. You may take your products or services global—Uranus often sets people and ideas on an international stage—which could involve importing or exporting creative goods or services.
Uranus won’t tolerate dull, stagnant, or weak situations—if you need to change how you earn, it will end what’s outworn and push you toward something stronger. You may begin earning in entirely new ways. If you’ve been stuck in a declining industry, you’ll seek out fresher, more resilient sectors. If it’s time to develop new income streams, Uranus will help catalyze that. Even changes that were long suppressed can work in your favor; some things won’t be obvious at first, but you’ll catch on.
How this unfolds will partly depend on the aspects Uranus makes to other planets in your natal chart. Some Uranian events may be beyond your control, which is why people sometimes worry about Uranus in the second house. Even so, this placement will make you more resourceful, adaptable, and ultimately stronger and more secure.
Here’s an example of Uranus in the second house in a natal chart.
When my first child, Chris, was born, my mother brought her birth chart to the hospital the next day. I immediately checked Uranus, which was in her second house. Coincidentally, Uranus made a perfect trine to her Sun in Pisces, in the part of her chart tied to career and finances. I was thrilled to see this—it bodes well for her financial prospects.
This doesn’t mean Uranus will guarantee her financial security at all times, but it will be a powerful help. You may have a similar setup: planets making favorable aspects to Uranus can support you, too. Remember, you work with two charts: your solar (Sun) chart and your natal chart based on your exact birth time. They differ, and you should consider both together. The solar chart matters because the Sun holds the central place in our system—all planets revolve around the Sun, not Venus, Mars, or any other planet.
In my Pisces daughter’s solar chart, Jupiter is in Aries. This is also relevant to all Pisces, including you. In other words, Chris has Jupiter in the income sector of her solar chart, in Aries—another reassuring indicator for long‑term financial security.
If you were born in the following periods, like Chris, you also have Jupiter in Aries in your solar second house. Jupiter will be a lifelong benefit—especially now, with Uranus in Aries. Here are some times when Jupiter was in Aries:
June 4, 1927, to June 4, 1928; May 11, 1939, to October 28, 1939; December 20, 1939, to May 16, 1940; April 21, 1951, to April 28, 1952; April 3, 1963, to April 12, 1963. Jupiter was also in Aries from March 18, 1975, to March 26, 1975; from March 2, 1987, to March 8, 1988; from February 12, 1999, to June 28, 1999; and from October 23, 1999, to February 14, 2000.
In more recent years, Jupiter—note: although the original text says Uranus here, it actually refers to Jupiter—was in Aries from June 6, 2010, to September 9, 2010, and again from January 22, 2011, to June 4, 2011. (I include 2010 and 2011 because you may have had children born during that time, and to satisfy curiosity.)
Uranus rules electricity—think high voltage and alternating current—so it can bring irregular currents to your finances. As a Pisces, you prefer to use your time creatively rather than in a rigid routine, so you may want to start your own business, perhaps in the creative arts. Actors and those in entertainment fit here, too.
This means it will be crucial to keep developing your career while staying on top of daily tasks. Consider both the short and long term, even if your current job leaves little time. That’s a tall order, but many Pisces can handle it well. If sales or new‑business development isn’t your strength, hire a pro to help. Knowing what you do best—and what you don’t—will help you make the most of your time.
Uranus is the planet of innovation, so industries favored in the coming years may include television, the internet, new digital media, high technology and electronics, biotechnology, medical research, hospital tech, the sciences, telecommunications, electronic publishing, software and app development, digital gaming, social networking, and the expanding “green” sector.
You may also shine in social causes, fundraising, and charitable work. You could be drawn to metaphysics, meditation, massage therapy, or astrology and find success there. Uranus in Aries also highlights competitive sports or high‑tech work connected to defense and prevention systems, which could be lucrative. As noted, immerse yourself in your craft to attract opportunities; if you’re preparing to open a shop, the timing—including finances—can be very satisfying.
The second house also rules spending. Under Uranus’s impulsive sway, a possible pitfall is blowing through savings in a matter of days. Your work life may swing to extremes, so moderation is key. The upside is that Uranus in the second house can also make you surprisingly good at finding smart compromises.
Finally, money is stored energy. When you contribute work, others exchange value with you. A person’s credit‑card statement can reveal their priorities: in college, we spend on tuition and books; when we first live independently, we invest in a new apartment; after marriage and children, much goes toward the kids. Our values around money are reflected beautifully in how we spend.
You’re not materialistic; still, Uranus moving through your second house may require sharper money management. Fortunately, you love creativity and innovation more than money itself—and that precious quality will keep guiding you to the right place.
