In astrology, every planet carries meanings tied to sexuality. Four are especially important: the Ascendant, Venus, Mars, and Pluto. Each is associated with a “sexual” zodiac sign—Libra, Taurus, Aries, and Scorpio.

1. The Ascendant governs Libra

This is where elements of physical appearance that spark sexual and physiological attraction come into play. The mental and psychological factors (Sun, Mars, Jupiter) are drawn to it. For example, if someone’s Sun, Mars, or Jupiter is in Leo, they tend to attract people with a Leo Ascendant, Ascendants in other fire signs, or Ascendants in the same element as Leo’s opposite sign. The strongest pull occurs when the Sun and Ascendant are in opposition; the tighter the angle, the stronger the effect.

When the Ascendant is in Libra, physical and personal charm is at its peak, followed by the other two air signs, then the four fire signs. With an Ascendant in earth or water signs, people are typically less overtly alluring.

2. Venus governs Taurus

This is unrelated to looks; it represents inner sexual magnetism. If the Ascendant is the skin, Venus is the flesh. Whenever your planets fall close to someone’s Venus, it creates a sensual pull—especially when a person’s Mars, Pluto, or Ascendant shares the same sign, element (fire, earth), or polarity with another person’s Venus. Venus-to-Venus aspects are also attractive; the closer the angle, the stronger the effect.

Venus in Taurus is the most sensual and captivating. If other factors (like the Ascendant) are also favorable, this person’s appearance can be striking. Venus in the other two earth signs is likewise appealing, followed by Venus in Scorpio and then the other two water signs. Venus in air signs can be a bit superficial, while in fire signs it can come across as overly assertive.

The relationship between Venus and Mars: This is often the primary indicator of whether two people’s sex lives will be harmonious. At minimum, either the sign or the element should align between Mars and Venus; ideally, both align. If one partner’s Mars is in a sign that forms a conjunction, opposition, trine, or sextile with the other partner’s Venus (the tighter the angle, the stronger the effect), that’s even better. If the elements form such aspects, that helps too. This pairing creates genuine attraction; even if the initial spark isn’t intense, over time they tend to feel well-matched, including in same-sex relationships. If Venus and Mars form challenging aspects, the chemistry can be very stimulating (especially squares and quincunxes), often prompting plenty of gossip, but such relationships are usually short-lived and can end in mutual hurt or unbearable tension. Venus tends to reject advances from a discordant Mars, which can provoke Mars—often leading to chronic friction or, in extreme cases, even violence.

3. Mars governs Aries

If Mars is well placed (in fire or air signs), it’s associated with a lean physique and abundant energy. Whereas Venus and the Ascendant describe the sex appeal others perceive, Mars (and Pluto) is the active initiator. Mars’s approach will be accepted or rejected by the Sun, Moon, Venus, Ascendant, or any planets near them. Mars represents instinctive sexual drive, and its sign and element describe your preferences and role in sexual matters.

Mars is strongest in Aries and the other two fire signs, followed by Libra and the other two air signs. With Mars in fire, people prefer direct physical play; with Mars in air, they seek mental and social challenge. Mars in water signs tends to be quieter and more passive, while in earth signs it can be coarse and forceful. If both Mars and the Ascendant are in earth or water signs, actions are slower and there may be a tendency toward weight gain.

4. Pluto governs Scorpio

Although Pluto is far away, that doesn’t mean it lacks influence. On the contrary, Pluto’s impact can be as strong as other placements, especially in sexual matters. The Ascendant represents visual and sensory attraction; Venus heightens the sense of affinity; Mars initiates and facilitates; and Pluto represents the spiritual, which can be even more intense. Without Pluto, there would be neither desire nor climax. If Pluto is close to another person’s Venus, Mars, or Ascendant, it can generate a very passionate sex life, especially when Pluto and Venus are conjunct in the natal or transit chart.

Pluto is strongest in Scorpio and the other water signs, followed by Taurus and the other earth signs. In air or fire signs, Pluto’s depth and intensity are markedly reduced.

If all four have favorable aspects, a person is likely to be highly attractive both physically and sexually. Most important is a strong Ascendant (in air or fire), followed by the other three: Venus (in earth or water), Mars (in fire or air), and Pluto (in water or earth). The remaining eight—Sun, Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and the Midheaven—when well placed, add even more allure.

In sexual matters, the Sun is lively and creative; the Moon signifies emotional bonding; Uranus brings novelty, experimentation, and excitement; Neptune embodies charm, seduction, and fantasy; Jupiter represents adventure; Mercury governs communication and mental games; and Saturn signifies mastery and technique.
