The questions I’m most often asked, and ones that many people grapple with, are:
Am I truly suited for this job?
Should I switch careers?
How do I choose between these two career paths?
Is it possible to turn my hobby into a profession?
Is entrepreneurship my path?
……
And more.
Whether you're preparing for grad school and deciding on a major, a recent graduate entering the job market, or a manager at a career crossroads seeking a new path…… have you found yourself or are you currently in this situation? Today, I'm going to show you a method to find the career direction that best suits you, without consulting an astrologer. Instead of analyzing the current job market, entrepreneurial trends, or capital preferences, we'll leverage your personal birth chart to pinpoint where your true focus and skills lie.
You don’t need an in-depth understanding of astrology (I’ll explain what you need), just some time, energy, and patience to follow my four-step method.
- Create a personal birth chart
- Locate your Midheaven sign
- Identify the ruling planet of your Midheaven sign
- Check if there are any planets near your Midheaven sign
"You’re speaking a language I don’t understand!" Don’t worry, I'll explain each step.
Create a personal birth chart
First, you need a birth chart, which is simple to obtain. Use online astrology tools (click here to generate your chart), or download one of the many apps available on smartphones to create your birth chart.
Find your Midheaven sign

This step is straightforward as well. In the inner circle of the birth chart, you'll see a ring of numbers from 1 to 12. Look for the line next to the number 10; the sign it points to in the outer circle is your Midheaven sign. [The green part indicates the inner circle with numbers 1-12, and the red part indicates the number 10 (the 10th house) and the Midheaven sign "Gemini"].
What does the Midheaven sign represent? It suggests potential career paths, such as:
- Aries: Surgeon, soldier, firefighter, athlete, explorer, automotive or mechanical technician, chef
- Taurus: Finance and banking, bank clerk, accountant, singer, musician, pianist, jeweler, designer, gourmet
- Gemini: Lecturer, writer, blogger, journalist, media personality, broadcaster, telecommunications worker, telemarketer, bookstore owner, driver
- Cancer: Restaurant industry, hotel industry, furniture sales, real estate agent, household management, history, archaeology, service industry, nurse
- Leo: Boss, celebrity, star, performer, securities investment, government official, entertainment agent, sports agent, gaming, gambling
- Virgo: Secretary, administrative assistant, service personnel, data processing and statistics, academic research, healthcare worker, nutritionist, health care, veterinarian
- Libra: Fashion, public relations, designer, beauty and hairdressing, judge, mediator, diplomat
- Scorpio: Tax personnel, insurance industry, finance, funeral services, psychologist, consultant, obstetrician, resource recycling
- Sagittarius: International trade, university professor, translator, lawyer, publisher, advertising, tour guide, tourism, education sector
- Capricorn: Government work, entrepreneur, construction industry, real estate, agriculture, leather work, security sector, metallurgy, legal profession
- Aquarius: New media, electronic technology, aviation, scientific research, environmental protection, human rights, charity
- Pisces: Film, music, fine arts, writing, and other artistic fields, aquaculture, petroleum industry, hospital pharmacy, chemistry
Note: The career paths related to the Midheaven sign are not definitive; they merely suggest possibilities.
Your ultimate conclusion comes from: After completing all the steps, the career direction that is most frequently mentioned, emphasized, and repeated is likely a reliable choice.
Fun fact: If your Midheaven sign is Gemini or Pisces, you might experience working in two different fields simultaneously (part-time) or consecutively. For example, you may first work in the media industry and later shift to sales, or work in media while part-time in trade, sales, or purchasing.
Identify the ruling planet of your Midheaven sign
This step is similar to a "matching" game.
First, understand that each planet in the birth chart rules a specific sign, as follows:
- Sun — Leo
- Moon — Cancer
- Mercury — Gemini and Virgo
- Venus — Taurus and Libra
- Mars — Aries
- Jupiter — Sagittarius
- Saturn — Capricorn
- Uranus — Aquarius
- Neptune — Pisces
- Pluto — Scorpio
(Mercury and Venus each rule two signs; the others each rule one.) Using the table above, start from your Midheaven sign and identify its ruling planet, then trace where that planet is located and in which sign it resides until you reach a stopping point (when the planet resides in its own ruling sign). If this part becomes challenging, hang in there!
Let’s consider this birth chart as an example:

The Midheaven sign is Gemini, with Mercury as its ruling planet; upon checking, Mercury is in Taurus. Taurus is ruled by Venus, and Venus is also in Taurus. This concludes the process, with Venus being the ruling planet of the Midheaven sign.
The purpose of identifying the ruling planet of the Midheaven sign
The Midheaven sign represents a career direction, while its ruling planet exerts a strong influence on your ultimate career path. Here are the industries associated with different ruling planets:
- Sun: Leadership roles, government positions, drama, entertainment, children's education, sports, amusement parks
- Moon: Healthcare, teaching, coaching, consulting, cooking, dining, service industry, public relations
- Mercury: Communication devices, transportation, sales, tourism, translation, media publishing, postal logistics, writing, public speaking
- Venus: Arts, music, dance, fashion, finance, banking, design, interior decoration, beauty and hairdressing, jewelry
- Mars: Surgeons, security industry, sports, mechanical industry, chefs, sales
- Jupiter: Law, philosophy, media publishing, academic research, multinational companies, overseas trade, tourism, advertising, critics
- Saturn: Business management, government departments, administrative agencies, agriculture, taxation, law enforcement, real estate, security, insurance
- Uranus: Technology, aviation, new media, electronics, maintenance, charity
- Neptune: Music, fine arts, photography, television, drama, psychological counseling, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, navigation, caregiving
- Pluto: Investigation, government, power agencies, insurance, management
The field represented by this ruling planet typically has a strong influence on your career choice. Venus may relate to fashion, finance, and the arts, while Mercury relates to media, writing, and language. Therefore, consider this one of the elements on which to focus.
Sometimes, multiple ruling planets may influence your chart. For instance, if Venus is in Gemini and Gemini’s ruling planet, Mercury, is in Taurus, this creates a link between two planets. You can interpret this combination, like fashion media, literary writing, financial sales, or bank customer service. (In more complex situations, there might be connections involving three planets, which can be interpreted similarly.)
Check for planetary proximity to your Midheaven sign
Let's look at the example again.

[The red box shows that the Sun is very close to the Midheaven sign] The Sun's proximity to the Midheaven sign means its influence will strongly affect your career direction. This factor is crucial (the represented areas remain consistent with those explained earlier).
Alright, those are the four steps. Does your head feel like it's buzzing? If you're still with me and interested, a thumbs up is well deserved! After reading and following along, how do you draw conclusions?
Astrology teaches that a conclusion must be supported by multiple elements in the birth chart indicating the same path. Simply put, identify the fields or directions mentioned most frequently; that’s your focus area. However, this isn’t the only way to determine a career; I’ve simplified techniques that require deeper astrological knowledge. Nonetheless, you can use this approach to grasp the main direction of your career and workplace aspirations.
I hope you find this useful and insightful.
Go ahead and try it out!
