Choosing a Partner by Birth Month
Did you know there may be a link between your partner preferences and your birth month? We were surprised to find scientific research on this topic. In one study, Marlis Moritz (March 2003) analyzed the birth dates of 2,549,000 men and women who married in Germany between 1995 and 2000. She found that marriages often occur between people born in the same month or around the same time of year.
According to her findings, people tend to marry someone born within four months before or after their own birth month. Women were more likely to marry men born before their birth month, while men appeared to favor women born after theirs. Her results also echoed a 1974 study by two Dutch behavioral scientists, the late Dr. P.P.A.M. Kop and Dr. B.A. Heuts of the University of Amsterdam. These researchers reported some noteworthy conclusions.
In their animal studies, they found that not every male can pair with any female, and vice versa. This led them to explore whether similar preferences appear in human behavior. They analyzed nearly 3,500 marriages in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and found statistically significant patterns based on birth months.
Intriguing, isn’t it? While there may be some truth to these findings, remember they come from statistical data, not individual case studies. From an astrological perspective, birth months are not the same as zodiac signs, which is why these studies are hard to interpret astrologically. Just because Kop and Heuts found that January women (likely Capricorns?) tend not to be attracted to April men (likely Aries?), we can’t conclude that Capricorn women and Aries men can’t get along—even if we’ve noticed similar situations.

Most January women prefer men born two months later—March—rather than men born in January. January women are also especially attracted to October men and least attracted to April men.
Men born in the second half of January prefer women born in the second half of October (twice as common as other marriage pairings); they least prefer women born in July or September.
