Capricorn: A Life of Contradictions

Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, is a study in contradictions. You can describe a Capricorn with almost any pair of opposites: outwardly conservative yet inwardly progressive; seemingly arrogant yet insecure; cool on the surface but passionate within; tough to the world yet tender at heart...

Capricorn is the most patient and persistent of the twelve signs. Practical and grounded, they tackle tasks with a no-nonsense attitude. They can also be stubborn: once they’ve formed an opinion, it’s hard to move them. Their stamina and work ethic are second to none, yet they can be the loneliest of the signs. Because of their contradictions, few people who don’t truly understand them are allowed into their inner world.

A typical Capricorn cares deeply about reputation. What they think beneath the surface is hard to read. Under Saturn’s influence, they often keep emotions under wraps and feel weighed down by responsibility. They don’t react much to others’ advice, which can make them seem aloof to some. So don’t expect to fully figure them out; they rely primarily on themselves. Though they appear strong and resilient, they often struggle with a lack of security and are slow to trust, preferring to think things through carefully before they act.

In Capricorn, arrogance and insecurity often coexist. They may come off as cool and distant, exacting in their work, and demanding of others. Yet beneath that exterior lies a pronounced sense of inadequacy. Much of their drive and grit is an effort to prove they are powerful, exceptional, even unbeatable. But this urge springs from shaky self-confidence; they seek self-worth by constantly proving themselves. Instead of persuading others, the real work is in convincing themselves.

In their ongoing quest to prove themselves, they can drift away from their simple, authentic selves. A steady sense of struggle and loneliness follows them, often dimming their joy. Seen another way, though, this has an upside. Through the very struggle, Capricorns can gradually outgrow their insecurities and learn that real strength needs no outside validation.
